First let me start by saying I'm a huge Kingdom Hearts fan! The reason I didn't buy this from Amazon is because I purchased the collectors edition from the Square Enix site.

*No spoilers in this review*

What are you getting?

In this HD remaster you're getting Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix(originally for ps2), Birth by Sleep (originally for playstation portable psp) and cutscenes from Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded (nintendo DS remake of a mobile game).

What this means is you will be able to play through Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix which wasn't released in the US and Birth By Sleep which is amazing for those who didn't own a PSP. Kingdom Hearts Re;Coded is just a collection of cut scenes able to be viewed in the theater mode.

Review so soon?

Yes, I recieved my collectors edition copy of the game on Saturday Nov 29th. I beat Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix the first day and I'm about halfway through Birth by Sleep. By the way when I say beat I mean just the main story there are still extra bosses, items and enemies to face! Also playing Birth by sleep with two thumbsticks alone is amazing. If you were thinking of getting a psp just to play the game, get this instead it looks and feels much better (like a HD remaster should). If you've played Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD then the theater mode will be similar and you'll know that the scenes will help those that haven't played the games still pick up the story.

Should you get this game?

If you're a fan of any of the Kingdom hearts games, of course! If you love disney and final fantasy, yes! Anyone who has played the previous 1.5 collection should pick this game up if they enjoyed it.

Last year Square-Enix finally decided to push a couple of games out in HD. Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Final Remix was released and it was one of the nicest HD polishes one could have hoped for. But it was also better by adding the improved elements of Kingdom Hearts 2 to the game. Unfortunately, for as good as it was, there wasn't much beyond the original Kingdom Hearts to really play. While still worth the buy Chain of Memories and a movie for 358/2 Days didn't exactly make for the greatest package. Nevertheless I was still happy with the purchase. Kingdom Hearts 2.5 pretty much does the same thing. This time around with Kingdom Hearts 2 and the universe expanded beyond that. Here you'll receive Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep and polished movies for Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded.

Kingdom Hearts II was originally released in 2006. It was notable for two things. The first was making vast improvements to the combat and control of the first Kingdom Hearts. The second was that this is where the overall story can begin to get confusing. We begin the game as a mysterious boy named Roxas who in a place called Twilight Town. As we play as Roxas we slowly piece together what has happened to Sora after Chain of Memories. The first three or four hours of Kingdom Hearts is rather slow before we finally get to Sora, Goofy and Donald. It's also where the story takes shape. Like the first game you travel to different Disney worlds helping the characters through their dilemma. Also like the first game a lot of the time you'll play through a plot similar to the movie. Kingdom Hearts II, however, is a lot more story oriented and focused. You'll revisit worlds that adds lots of layers to the plot.

Kingdom Hearts 2.5 Remix is an amazing collection of 2 very epic and wonderful games. The Kingdom Hearts series is known for it's mixture of Disney characters and worlds mixed with Final Fantasy settings and gameplay. This goes without being said, but if you haven't played and beat the original KH 1.5 HD Remix, do that first before moving on to this one. This way you know what to expect and can understand the series better as a whole.

Now there are 2 games that have not only been remastered in high definition, but they also include all of the Japanese exclusive content that was available in the “Final Mix” versions of these games released in Japan. If you are familiar with the “International” version of Final Fantasy X it's very similar in that regard. A few new weapons and super bosses are added. They don't add much in the grand scheme of things, but it's very nice that Square Enix included them for fans.

Kingdom Hearts II was originally a Playstation 2 game. It transitions wonderfully over to the PS3. This game is everything the first KH was and more. The story is truly something to experience for yourself, as it gets extremely complicated. The main idea is that light and darkness exist together. The main character, Sora, is joined by Donald, Goofy, and Mickey, and together you are fighting for light as the bad guys are all about the darkness.

The only character you control is Sora, as Donald and Goofy fight alongside you. You can still equip them with weapons, armor, and accessories, as well as change their abilities. The combat system is fantastic. This is one of those games that's so good, it makes it harder to go and enjoy other games because the combat is nearly perfect and so refined.
