New readers will be able to follow along without any complications or knowledge of the first Kingdom Hearts, although the existing fanbase may be put off or bored by the literal translation of game to manga. You can see that Shiro Amano's Artwork is getting better since the debut with the first KH Mangas!
I highly recommend buying it if you are a KH Fan or just getting to know the series, but I would start with Kingdom Hearts, Vol. 1

I'm a huge fan of the Kingdom Hearts series. With the addition of this book to my collection, i have gotten one step closer to obtaining everything KH related. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the books based on the games and would recommend them to everyone.
