Book Description

4 and upThe Kingdom Keepers Series
When Disney Imagineers installed hologram guides for the Magic Kingdom using teenage models, they had no idea the technology might backfire. But backfire it did: some nights when the kids go to sleep, they wake up in one of the Disney parks as holograms. The five teens have twice thwarted evil plots masterminded by Maleficent; but now Finn, Philby, Willa, Charlene, and Maybeck have another problem: Wayne, their mentor and head Imagineer, has mysteriously gone missing. Concerned that Wayne has been abducted by the Overtakers, the kids pick up a major clue from a close friend, Jess, whose dreams (nightmares, really) often accurately predict the future. This time, the clues from Jess’s dream lead the kids into Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Epcot. Each clue seems tied to the last, and with the stakes growing ever higher, what starts out as a puzzle ends up as a fight for their lives. As they quest for a sword, take rides on Soarin’ and Maelstrom, have life-and-death encounters with a giant snake, and attempt to stop Maleficent, the Kingdom Keepers not only begin to decipher deeper meanings in the clues, but discover new truths about themselves and their ever-growing friendships.

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Gr 5-8–In Ridley Pearson's third installment (Hyperion, 2010) of the Kingdom Keepers saga, the five teenage Disney hologram guides (DHIs) are once again transported at night into Disney World to solve a crime. When the Disney Imagineers originally developed the holograms out of real teenagers, they didn't know Finn, Philby, Willa, Charlene, and Maybeck would be able to cross over into the park when they went to sleep at night. During the day, the park offers its world-famous adventures, but at night it's plagued with evil doers. The DHIs discover that their mentor and head Imagineer, Wayne, is being held hostage somewhere in the park. A close friend's dream points them to the Hollywood Studios and Epcot, but a lost remote, used for getting them out of the park, takes away their ability to return to their sleeping bodies and traps them as holograms. They enter the rides hoping to discover clues along the way, but danger awaits them at every turn. The villains are deliciously evil, making their ultimate defeat all the more urgent. This volume can stand along, but the story line begins with events in the first two books. MacLeod Andrews gives the characters distinct voices and conveys the thrill of the chase. The behind-the-scenes interaction with Disney World makes these stories unique.–Robyn Gioia, Bolles School, Ponte Vedra, FLα(c) Copyright 2010. Kingdom Keepers is an excellent book for kids and adults. It helps you imagine yourself in the Walt Disney World Resort getting involved in the story. Fabulous plots and the kids love to read them. Can't wait for the next edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kingdom Keeper series, May 17, 2010

This is a great series for kids and adults. My daughter and I have both read all 3 books and can't wait for the next one! She also used each of the three books in the series for her oral reports at school. Since there are so many threads in the story, as well as lots of action, it made for great presentation material.

3.0 out of 5 stars Better then the 2nd but still Disappointing (Spoilers), August 6, 2010
By
Ian rodriguez (new york, NY USA) - See all my reviews
The 3rd book in the series was a notable improvement from the 2nd one. The characters were more developed (although they still act like stereotypes) and the description is more vivid then the second one. This book did not feel as rushed as the second one did, and was more evenly paced.
That being said, Pearson continues to solely rely on Maleficent and her robotic pawns. Besides the addition of the snake Gigabyte (and a brief appearance by Stitch), there are no new villains to add to the roster in the book. Which is sad considering the fact that the author has so many to choose from.
And overall, there isn't a change in the plot (Major Spoilers Ahead) The kids find Wayne, Maleficent and Chernabog are captured and its basically back to square one. The only difference being that Flynn now has a sword (which may be the Sword in the Stone, which would show rare foresight on the authors part.)
Villains aside, the characters don't even meet any Disney heroes! Despite the fact that they are in a world where the bad guys always loose, they have yet to meet any Disney heroes. Goofy, Chip, Dale and Tom Sawyer were seen by Flynn in the first book...and that was it. In the third book all that is given to them is a mention of Mr. Potato Head liking to mess with people, and Tigger spying on another villain (not seen but mentioned, which alludes to the good characters working against the villains. Here's hoping that Mr. Pearson is showing some foresight here)
Better then the second, but still not as good as the first. Here is hoping for a better fourth.
