Named for Edgar Allen Poe's doomed heroine, Annabelle Lee struggles to escape a similar fate after an ebony-clad intruder attacked her and left her for dead in New York City. She moves to a charming Long Island town where she meets Brennan O'Rourke, a best-selling horror novelist who sports a black cape as a publicity prop which reminds Annabelle of her brutal experience.
Shaken by their first encounter, Annabelle soon sees past Brennan's persona to the lonely man within. Haunted by a secret of his own, Brennan reaches out to protect Annabelle, even though the connection threatens to destroy the carefully controlled existence he has constructed for himself.
