5.0 out of 5 stars The Best the Christian Music Industry Has to Offer, March 30, 2006
By
This review is from: In the Kingdom (Audio CD)
Alot of people like to compare this classic christian metal/rock band to the secular Ratt, but in my opinion it sounds alot more like Van Halen. Rex Carroll is nothing short of perfect on guitars, and Scott Wenzel has an amazing metal voice. You might hear some people say that he can't sing, but that baloney. He has one of the best screeches you'll ever hear. There is not single track on here thats not spectacular, including the three ballads "In the Kingdom," "In His Hands," and "If He Goes Before Me." "In the Kingdom" is arguably Whitecross's biggest hit, but in my opinion it is ironically the least amazing of the three ballads.

No Second Chances - there couldn't possibly be a better way to start a killer metal album than this. Great guitar riff and solo with an extremely catchy chorus. 5/5

We Know What's Right - it has a good opening solo and the chorus is a call to action for all christians to stand up for what's right. 4/5

In the Kingdom - great title track, but I actually like the other two ballads better than this one. 4/5

In His Hands - I believe that this is Whitecross's best ballad ever, with a beautiful piano arrangement and, of course, a great Rex Carrol guitar solo. 5/5

Good Enough - if you've ever heard the song "Hot for Teacher" by Van Halen, you could swear that Alex Van Halen is playing the drums in this one. Although it's a bit unoriginal, it's still a good rockin' Whitecross tune. 4/5

Love is our Weapon - the vocal opening to this one is a little corny, but you can't deny Rex's killer guitar riff. The guitars are on fire in this one. 5/5

The Eternal Fire - one word for you -- REX! Rex Carrol is the greatest christian guitarist of all time, and if you don't believe me just listen to this track. Unlike previous guitar solos on "Hammer & Nail" and "Triumphant Return," this is just guitar, no background rhythm and it sounds great. 5/5

You Will Find It There - disregarding "The Eternal Fire," this track has the best guitar work on the album. It's a laid back bluesy ballad, and Rex just fires off three tremendous solos. Oh, and this is also Scott Wenzel finest performance on vocals. 5/5

If He Goes Before Me - the third and final ballad, and its great. The chorus, with great harmony, will stick in your head for days. "In His Hands" just edges this one out for best ballad because this one doesnt have a guitar solo. 5/5

Tell Me the Time - this sounds like Aerosmith, except heavier. There are two phenomenal guitar solos in this track. 5/5

Holy War - wow!, what a way to end an album. This would be by far the best track on the disc if it didn't have that pointless rap right in the middle of the verse, but it's still terrific. 5/5

As you can see, every track got a positive response from me. This is the best Whitecross has to offer, but "Triumphant Return" is also amazing, and "Hammer & Nail" is very good as well. If you're like me and you like classic rock and 80's metal but you're also a strong christian, you'll love this. Unlike some of today's christian "rock" bands like Switchfoot and Relient K, Whitecross will gladly say "Jesus" in every song without constantly trying to appeal to the mainstream, and they're also drastically better musicians that those of Switchfoot or Relient K.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whitecross At Its Best..., April 17, 2006
This review is from: In the Kingdom (Audio CD)
From the time that I listened to the song ' In The Kingdom', I instantly bacame a fan. You will be hardpressed to find a better hard rock music duel than Scott Wenzel (vocals) and Rex Carroll(guitars) in any band. New comer Mike Feighan (drums) and Butch Dillon (Bass) puts Whitecross at the top of their game.
The best from this CD are You Will Find It There (A hard rock blues ballad with 3 guitar solos), No Second Chances (received Hard Rock Song of the Year in Christain music), Good Enough (Fast, hard rocker), Love Is Our Weapon, We Know What's Right, In His Hands(ballad), If He Goes Before Me(ballad), and In The Kingdom (ballad, could possibly be their most well known song).
I didn't care much for the other three songs, for example, Holy War had a lousy rap section in it. The Eternal Fire (A guitar solo/instrumental) didn't seem so great or original after hearing the fantastic guitar riffs in the other songs. Tell Me The Time just didn't have a good tune for me.
So, that still gives us 8 super songs on one CD!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Enough, January 7, 2009

When I got this CD in my hands, I thought that this would be one of the greatest CDs ever made. However, there IS great songs, many great songs, such as "In the Kingdom", "No Second Changes", "In His Hands", "Holy War", and "If He Goes Before Me". Also "Good Enough", "We Know What's Right" and the guitar solo "The Eternal Fire" are quite great ones. But then there's also three poor tracks "You Will Find It There", "Love Is Our Weapon", and especially "Tell Me The Time" which aren't for my taste. Also the two rap sections in "Holy War" are strange - especially because I hate rap - but still it's a great song with great vocal power.
Stars: In the Kingdom, No Second Chances, Holy War

In my opinion this is Whitecross' best work. I remember listening to this in my early teens. Great music, great message. I only wish it were available as an MP3 download.

In my humble opinion, there are only 4 great Whitecross CD's - 1987, Hammer and Nail, Triumphant Return and In the Kingdom - Rex Carroll makes EVH look like a school boy. Being a guitarist myself, I see the influence that he had on Rex and Rex took it to the next level - great Christian songs and well thought out phrasing with his lead guitar work. Buy at Amazon.com - the only place you can find Whitecross CD's......

Classic turn of the decade metal album. Catchy chorus' excellent riffs and great vocals keep you in the era of eighties metal for an hour. It carries as well a great gospel message that is uncompromised, unashamed and a very bold witness for Jesus Christ.
