Finally!,
This review is from: Kingdoms: A Biblical Epic, Vol. 1 - The Coming Storm (v. 1) (Paperback)
I'll admit I'm a manga fan -- but I usually like the more offbeat mangas such as KINGDOM HEARTS, RETURN TO LABYRINTH, and SERENITY. And now, I have to add a new series to my favorites: KINGDOMS. I got really excited when I saw this series come into my local Christian bookstore -- and when I flipped through THE COMING STORM, I began to get even more excited. Finally, a really well-done Christian manga that wouldn't embarrass me to share with anybody.
The storyline is interesting -- focusing on a little talked about portion of the Bible when Pharaoh Neco attacks Babylon. This first episode focused on Iddo, an advisor to King Josiah. He goes through some real tough character growth and anger at God for the things happening around him -- much more depth than I expected to find. The graphics are awesome -- And they should be, seeing as the illustrator has worked on comic books ranging from Batman to X-Men. The nuances in the eyes and faces are perfect -- the paneling is superb. Zondervan has really pulled out all the stops in creating a top notch manga series that is exciting from the first battle to the final intrigues leading into the next volume. Manga fans would be amiss to pass up owning an incredible stepping stone in the history of Christian literature.
