Keeper Martin's Tales
The thrilling adventure full of mystery, magic, elves, monsters, and the ultimate battle between good and evil continues! To save her kingdom Queen Mother sent her most trusted warriors on a perilous journey across the Great Sea. But the elves were betrayed. Only a handful survived, and only two reached the far shores. The survivors did not find quick allies. They found a kingdom under siege and a shattered alliance. What lies beyond, they don't know. The future is uncertain. But they do know that they must win this fight, for failure would certainly mean the end to everything they hold dear. Recommended for ages: 10 and up. RP Echo: value for your dollar! Editorial Reviews

Review

Dramatic illustrations draw the reader into the Tolkienesque world of Ruin Mist, plunged into darkness after a Great War five hundred years past. Blaming magic for their demise, the Kings of Men have decreed that all things magical be destroyed. Yet despite their efforts, the magical Dark Lord is slowly returning to power. Another bloody battle is foreshadowed for Ruin Mist when Adrina, the spoiled and lonely princess of Imtal, is visited by a mysterious woman who predicts Adrina's ghastly future. Meanwhile in the kingdom of Elves, Seth, devoted First of the Red Order of the Queen Mother Elf, is sent on a journey across the Great Sea to prevent war. Stuck somewhere in the middle is Vilmos, a young magical boy-who-would-be-mage, abducted for his own safety by a Yoda-like guide named Xith. All three journey to an unknown fate against treacherous and sometimes supernatural foes. Stanek augments the beginning of this complex tale with illustrations that are sure to attract fans of graphic novels and classic Tolkien alike-the only weakness in the illustrations is their scarcity. Stanek will likely draw a cult following, but his work is not for the novice fantasy reader. A complicated glossary at the end includes twenty-two pages of "People, Places, and Things in Ruin Mist," complete with geographical references, family lineages, and extraordinary sketches. Despite the sophisticated plot, however, this cliffhanger guarantees fans, and those fans will be ready to wield their swords against the Dark Lord in Stanek's next installment. -- VOYA, February 1, 2007 review of The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

More About the Author

I'm Robert Stanek, and I've been writing stories for nearly 30 years. Though I've always been a writer at heart, I never set out to be a writer. What I wanted to be, I didn't know when I said goodbye to high school. What I wanted to do though, I knew that: I wanted to see the world--and so I did while serving my country in distant lands.

I wrote novels for more than ten years before I ever tried to get published. My big break came with a book about publishing--only a different sort of publishing than you may be thinking. The book was about web publishing and so my career in writing began. While I wrote those other books, I wrote many, many stories and books for my kids, and I collected them for a few decades, until at my children's urging I set out to get them published for others to enjoy.

I am the second youngest of five children, raised by a single mom. While stationed in Hawaii with the U.S. Air Force and working shift work, I went back to school and earned my bachelor's and master's degrees from Hawaii Pacific University. After an 11-year career in the military, I moved with my wife and children to Washington State. When I'm not writing, I can be found playing video games, reading books, or trekking the great outdoors in search of adventure with my wife and children.

It's been a fairly open secret I also write as William Stanek. You can learn more about me at http://www.robertstanek.com or at http://stanek.reagentpress.com. Find me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/RobertStanekAuthor.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Novel I Have Ever Read, November 20, 2004
I have racked my memory for an example of a worse novel, but I am at a loss to do so. The characters are wooden, the storyline derivative, and the writing itself is so trite and dull, that I actually fell asleep reading it, which I have never done in my entire life before this boring book.

I know that self-publishing isn't necessarily resorted to only by untalented hacks, but that appears to be the sad story in this case.

The book is physically ugly. It is so ugly and so poorly put together that I imagine I could have put something together myself with a stapler and glue that was more attractive, and sturdier. I discovered it at a laundromat, abandoned by its owner, with the words "This is the worst garbage I have ever read, whoever finds it can keep it," scrawled on the inside, so I started to read it as my socks dried. I should have just watched my socks spin in the dryer, it would have been more interesting.

I would give negative stars if possible.

The reviews are so inexplicably praiseworthy for this book that I suspect that many of the reviewers are shills, unwitting or otherwise. Of course, I can't prove this, but that is my honest opinion.

Avoid at all costs.

A Kid's Review
I'm a fan of Harry Potter who just discovered this series, and I'm glad to have something to fill the "void" until the final Potter book comes out. Looking forward to continuing the saga with the third book.

A Kid's Review
This is the story of three heroes named Vilmos, Adrina, and Seth.

Vilmos's whole life changed when he accidentally used his forbidden magic but when the dark priests came to get him he escaped into the night with the help of his tutor. His tutor takes him through the woods to safety and this is when he meet Xith, a mysterious stranger who has been in his dreams. When Vilmos decides to flee with Xith to the northlands, his training as a wizard begins.

Adrina's life changed when she determines to get beyond Imtal, the only place she's ever learned. Little did she know her secret yearning to get away would cost her so dearly, because she is soon tangled up in a web of deceit and trickery with Emel being the only one she can trust.

Seth is an elf, he is great warrior and queen's protector. Seth's life changes when the queen of the elves charges him to travel across the great sea to the lands of men. As men and elves are ancient enemies and the elves themselves are at war this is a perilous journey.
