Book Description

9 and up4 and upKeeper Martin's Tales
Here is the fourth volume in Robert Stanek's magnificent Keeper Martin's Tales -- the series fans have called "The Star Wars" of fantasy. Filled with mystery, intrigue, adventure, and magic the books transport us to a world unlike any other. Praised as an "instant" classic, Robert Stanek's outstanding series has quickly become a favorite. The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches IV To turn back the tides of war, Queen Mother sent her most trusted warriors on a perilous journey across the Great Sea. But the elves were betrayed by one of their own. Only a handful survived the ambush that followed, only two reached the far shores. But they did not find quick allies. They found a kingdom under siege and a shattered alliance. The elves proved themselves to the men that defended Quashan'. They along with the mysterious Xith, the would-be mage Vilmos, Princess Adrina and their friends helped turn the battle in Great Kingdom's favor. For their support, the elves were granted an audience with the king. Yet great deeds could not undo the past, or change the prejudice of men. Elves and men are enemies, as it has been through time. The Alder King had his own concerns. The kingdom alliance was shattered. An ally, and a great king was dead. War between the kingdoms seemed inevitable. If there was any hope of restoring the alliance, he must rid the kingdom of the enemy's spies. But was such a thing possible without the backing of those he needed the most?

Editorial Reviews

Review

Dramatic illustrations draw the reader into the Tolkienesque world of Ruin Mist, plunged into darkness after a Great War five hundred years past. Blaming magic for their demise, the Kings of Men have decreed that all things magical be destroyed. Yet despite their efforts, the magical Dark Lord is slowly returning to power. Another bloody battle is foreshadowed for Ruin Mist when Adrina, the spoiled and lonely princess of Imtal, is visited by a mysterious woman who predicts Adrina's ghastly future. Meanwhile in the kingdom of Elves, Seth, devoted First of the Red Order of the Queen Mother Elf, is sent on a journey across the Great Sea to prevent war. Stuck somewhere in the middle is Vilmos, a young magical boy-who-would-be-mage, abducted for his own safety by a Yoda-like guide named Xith. All three journey to an unknown fate against treacherous and sometimes supernatural foes. Stanek augments the beginning of this complex tale with illustrations that are sure to attract fans of graphic novels and classic Tolkien alike-the only weakness in the illustrations is their scarcity. Stanek will likely draw a cult following, but his work is not for the novice fantasy reader. A complicated glossary at the end includes twenty-two pages of "People, Places, and Things in Ruin Mist," complete with geographical references, family lineages, and extraordinary sketches. Despite the sophisticated plot, however, this cliffhanger guarantees fans, and those fans will be ready to wield their swords against the Dark Lord in Stanek's next installment. -- VOYA, February 1, 2007 review of The Kingdoms and the Elves of the Reaches --This text refers to the Kindle Edition edition.

More About the Author

I'm Robert Stanek, and I've been writing stories for nearly 30 years. Though I've always been a writer at heart, I never set out to be a writer. What I wanted to be, I didn't know when I said goodbye to high school. What I wanted to do though, I knew that: I wanted to see the world--and so I did while serving my country in distant lands.

I wrote novels for more than ten years before I ever tried to get published. My big break came with a book about publishing--only a different sort of publishing than you may be thinking. The book was about web publishing and so my career in writing began. While I wrote those other books, I wrote many, many stories and books for my kids, and I collected them for a few decades, until at my children's urging I set out to get them published for others to enjoy.

I am the second youngest of five children, raised by a single mom. While stationed in Hawaii with the U.S. Air Force and working shift work, I went back to school and earned my bachelor's and master's degrees from Hawaii Pacific University. After an 11-year career in the military, I moved with my wife and children to Washington State. When I'm not writing, I can be found playing video games, reading books, or trekking the great outdoors in search of adventure with my wife and children.

It's been a fairly open secret I also write as William Stanek. You can learn more about me at http://www.robertstanek.com or at http://stanek.reagentpress.com. Find me on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/RobertStanekAuthor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A new Robert Stanek fan..., March 31, 2006
A Kid's Review
I'm not usually a fantasy kind of reader. Bringing together adventure, action and a good mystery....that hooked me.

I like to try to guess the plot twists of a novel ahead of time. R. Stanek throws just enough of a curveball to keep you guessing though. I'm reading the whole series a second time just to better catch all the little details tossed in a long the way.

Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Kingdoms and the Elves is the best series out there!, February 4, 2006
A Kid's Review
Step aside Harry and Frodo, you've got company. Okay. I must admit I was doubtful of the whole Kingdoms and the Elves craze for a long time. Two years, in fact. I suppose I just put them out of my mind. After all, why would I read some just another version of, say, Tolkien or Rowling? I don't think I've ever quite regretted doing something so much. This book right here is probably the best of them all, from the start to exciting (and satisfying and suspenseful) finish. I could see the reason for all the attention; I hadn't read such a riveting fantasy yarn since the Lord of the Rings, and to say that this series rivals such a work is not a light complement. My utmost respect to Mr. Stanek and his creative genius for spinning such a wonderful tale! Read them in order, otherwise things'll get confusing. These books are enjoyable by anyone from the time one begins to read. Join the fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply amazing, February 20, 2007
A Kid's Review
I loved this book!! I could really imagine what was going on! It was full of adventure and magic!

This would rank up there as one of the best books I have read. I would say that Stanek ranks up there with some of the best authors including: Jk Rowling, Jrr Tolkien, RA Salvatore, and Brian Jacques just to name a few of my favorites.

If you like Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, you will LOVE this book! A 5 star winner!
