This review is from: Kingmaker (CD-ROM)
The game of Kingmaker was originally a multi-player board game by Ariel published in 1974 in England. The map consisted of the Isle as it was in the time of the Wars of the Roses. The purpose is to acquire a royal heir from either the house of Lancaster or York and slay all other heirs and end the game by having yours crowned as King of England. The computer game moves nobles into packs more quickly and hunts any crowned official, so it is wise not to have your heir crowned as King prior to eliminating all competition. Sadly, the graphics are ancient, new computers won't run it and it is a pity because it is a very good board game to computer game transfer. Highly playable and your victories are ranked according to how fast you conclude the game and crown for victory. There are powerful nobles and factions that can be assembled with offices and the aid of the Church but there is frustration due to appointed nobles being called away just when you get them together and plague can wipe out promising nobles and heirs to the throne. A wonderful game but seriously in need of modernization to current computer graphics and speed. Otherwise it would be a 5 star game.
