Had a lot of Promise...,

This review is from: Kingmax Super Stick - 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (World's Tiniest) (Personal Computers)
I first made a purchase of the 2GB model since I had never heard of Kingmax before and didn't want to risk big money on the 4GB model. After checking it out, I gave it to a friend and for all I know, it's still working.I ordered the 4GB model from thememstore and was pleased for all of the first month until the unit inexpicably died. I tried it on several systems, attempted to reformat but none of my systems were detecting the drive properly. I contacted Kingmax through their poorly constructed English webform, and was given the run around about trying this, then that, all of which did nothing. When I explained that I had troubleshooted everything, the e-mail reply I got was to return the product back to the seller. I contacted thememstore by phone and explained the situation. They issued an RMA and I mailed the drive back to them, confirmed shipping. Their policy of refunding return shipping took a few phone calls but eventually I was given a credit via Paypal, since the money order I was told I would be receiving was "in the mail". All in all, the return process was relatively pleasant. Unfortunately, from the other reviews I've read on the 4GB model, it seems Kingmax has a long way to go in order to improve product reliability. At the time I made my purchase however, the product was new and there weren't any reviews highlighting these problems. I guess it doesn't always pay to be innovative...

I already have a PQI Intelligent Stick 1GB usb drive, which is already tiny and fits in my wallet. I purchased this one because I wanted more capacity. What I wasn't sure about was its read/write speed. Since it wasn't mentioned at all, I figured that it would be average.I did a comparison between this and my Intelligent stick by copying the same file. Vista reported that the Intelligent Stick was writing at 12MB/sec while the Kingmax was writing at 3.5MB/sec. Despite the huge difference in write speeds, the Kingmax is much tinier and has a much larger capacity.

I've owned two of these because of how handy it is due to its size. unfortunately, both of them died within a month or two of owning them. I would like to purchase another, but I cannot afford to keep buying a new one ever two months just to keep some documents with me at all times.it is a great product in its short-short lifespan.
