Had a lot of Promise...,

This review is from: Kingmax Super Stick - 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (World's Tiniest) (Personal Computers)
I first made a purchase of the 2GB model since I had never heard of Kingmax before and didn't want to risk big money on the 4GB model. After checking it out, I gave it to a friend and for all I know, it's still working.I ordered the 4GB model from thememstore and was pleased for all of the first month until the unit inexpicably died. I tried it on several systems, attempted to reformat but none of my systems were detecting the drive properly. I contacted Kingmax through their poorly constructed English webform, and was given the run around about trying this, then that, all of which did nothing. When I explained that I had troubleshooted everything, the e-mail reply I got was to return the product back to the seller. I contacted thememstore by phone and explained the situation. They issued an RMA and I mailed the drive back to them, confirmed shipping. Their policy of refunding return shipping took a few phone calls but eventually I was given a credit via Paypal, since the money order I was told I would be receiving was "in the mail". All in all, the return process was relatively pleasant. Unfortunately, from the other reviews I've read on the 4GB model, it seems Kingmax has a long way to go in order to improve product reliability. At the time I made my purchase however, the product was new and there weren't any reviews highlighting these problems. I guess it doesn't always pay to be innovative...

I already have a PQI Intelligent Stick 1GB usb drive, which is already tiny and fits in my wallet. I purchased this one because I wanted more capacity. What I wasn't sure about was its read/write speed. Since it wasn't mentioned at all, I figured that it would be average.I did a comparison between this and my Intelligent stick by copying the same file. Vista reported that the Intelligent Stick was writing at 12MB/sec while the Kingmax was writing at 3.5MB/sec. Despite the huge difference in write speeds, the Kingmax is much tinier and has a much larger capacity.

I've owned two of these because of how handy it is due to its size. unfortunately, both of them died within a month or two of owning them. I would like to purchase another, but I cannot afford to keep buying a new one ever two months just to keep some documents with me at all times.it is a great product in its short-short lifespan.

I have about a dozen of these drives, the 1GB, 2GB and 4GB versions, and the only problem I've had is getting them back from the people I've lent them to. They've been working perfectly under Vista, XP and OS X. They're not the fastest flash drives, they're about average in that respect, but the performance / price / size equation just can't be beat.

I've owned my 2GB drive for about two years now. I was concerned about whether it would stand up to the beating it's been taking. I attached it to my keys, and they get thrown around a lot. But it's still going strong. I'm not geeky enough to know whether it should be reading or writing files faster, but I do know it works beautifully, even after all this time.

Pros:Great product, fits on my keychain nicely. Awesome capacity for its size, when I pull it out of my pocket people ask me what it is, and don't believe that it holds 4gb. I have purchased several of these since they're so cheap. Cons: Small and easy to lose. Slow write speeds, even with the readyboost version. One of mine broke, I contacted the seller via phone and was told that they didn't know what product I was talking about and that I should contact the manufacturer, who in turn told me to contact the seller. I pretty much just gave up after that, didn't want to deal with the runaround on a $15 flash drive.

Small and cheap USB flash has drawbacks,
This review is from: Kingmax Super Stick - 4GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive (World's Tiniest) (Personal Computers)
This thing takes about 10 mins+ to copy a 100meg folder of 200kb files! When you first open up the drive it takes a long time to load the directory structure. The manufacturer claims that this drive can write at 3.5mb/sec (very slow for USB 2.0) -- it might peak at that speed for moving large files (like a movie) but the performance drops a lot for smaller files (like photos). If you are planning on getting one of these, it is a tiny little archive that you can stuff into your change pouch or wallet. I use it to store little Excel and Powerpoint files or some PDFs. I would not use this to share photo albums or home videos, it's much too slow for that.

I bought this so I could put it into my wallet and it was perfect for that. It did, however, end up not working in roughly two weeks. Not worth it. Enough said.

I bought this product because of its tiny size (fits in a wallet!) and ok price. It worked for just 2 months and now Windows doesn't recognize it anymore. Now I'm buying a Sony Micro Vault, which is about the same size but cost more. You should do the same.

I have had these (two of them) for over a year and they have performed well. One had the loop end crack loose but a little glue and it is still going strong!
