Book Description

Two Kingdoms United by Magic Will Need a Talented Assassin to Survive

The highly trained assassins of Evendell have a single, unyielding mission: defend the monarch of Bacovia—at any cost. It’s the enduring product of an age-old pact, formed when Bacovia came to the smaller kingdom’s aid militarily a long time ago. But neither party has ever faced the danger that now lurks behind every castle corridor. Now, a beautiful young assassin named Aislynn has been assigned to protect the heir apparent, Eryk. Yet Eryk’s independent streak offers stiff resistance to what anyone else has planned for him—especially an untested and unfamiliar sentinel. Faced with banishment, Aislynn must stay true to her mission from afar, at precisely the time when the threat against his life is highest. As Aislynn soon discovers, few things—and people—are as they seem. Whom can she trust as she endeavors to unravel the conspiracy and defeat the terrorists, once and for all? A fast-paced, smart and savvy fantasy thriller, The King’s Assassin will keep you guessing right up until the shocking finale.

More About the Author

I'm a teacher and love my job. I live with my husband, three boys and an assortment of pets.

Writing began mostly as a hobby, and I've learned so much from writing the first book. Honestly, I've learned enough that I'd love to re-work and re-release the first book, but since that's not in the works, I've used what I've learned on the second book, War Torn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Murder in a Fantasy Kingdom, May 31, 2010
This review is from: The King's Assassin (Paperback)
We are confronted with a murder at the beginning, and it is a King.In this fantasy world, which resembles the middle ages with sword fights, hunting, castles, and intrigue, the difference is cleverly revealed when the reader is introduced to Aislynn. She is a trained assassin, and marks on her arms reveal she comes from a line dedicated to this task. These assassins have a duty to defend the King of Bacovia, as their country, Evendell has a peace treaty. With the new King, Eryk, in danger from also being murdered, Aislynn has her hands full in trying to identify the would-be assassins, as well as coping with his increased fondness for her, as he has a duty to find a wife. This is a fast paced story, well written, but I have reservations about its intended audience, though understand it is aimed at Young Adults. I believe the blossoming romance will put off the lads, and as the epilogue suggests another book, believe the author must indicate her target readers. Some mistakes occur, such as having a church, then depicting candles lit for the 'Gods.' Maybe a 'temple' would be better, and I would have liked to read more detail about the coronation of Eryk, rather than just a sentence. However, this is a very good debut book for the author, and I can recommend it. Brian Lux (award winning 'Court of Foxes')

5.0 out of 5 stars A Fantasy Thriller that Rocks!, May 24, 2010
This review is from: The King's Assassin (Paperback)
Brownlow brings to us a wonderful and fantastic story that revolves around a new King, Eryk and his protector, Aislynn, who also happens to be a highly trained assassin. The King's Assassin pulls you into the world of Brownlow and the lands of Evendell and Bacovia.

As Robert Jordan thrilled readers with his Wheel of Time series, Brownlow has created for us a new world of magic, intrigue, murder and love in The King's Assassin. Every lover of fantasy will greatly enjoy this fast-paced story. The characters have depth and wit, the scenes are well-written and detailed.

Fantasy is favorite genre and I thoroughly enjoyed this tale about an unlikely king, his unwanted protector, the conspiracies that unfold, the loves that blossom or are denied and the kingdoms that are in danger.

1.0 out of 5 stars Strictly based on Editing, July 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
If it were not for the editing problems I would rate it at a 4 or 5 star. I am not the worlds greatest editor and I miss most things when reading through the first time. OH MY GOODNESS M.M. Brownlow should be EXTREMELY pissed off at the editors of the digital version of her book.
If you can make it through ALL of the MASSIVE amounts of editing problems you should love the book. Great story although I was able to figure it out just after the characters were introduced. I really did like the book but I absolutely hated the editing problems that were from, literally, the start to finish.
