Excellent African Groove-Funk Music,
This review is from: Kings of Benin Urban Groove 1972-80 (Audio CD)
Kings of Benin is a diverse and exceptional sampling of 1970s African-style R&B. T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rythmo's style varies from funk to disco to R&B. The music features stellar bass lines, an amazing horn section (it's a ten-member band), inventive keyboards, and layers of thumping drums driving the beat. It's got Latin flavor & Tito Puente influences, but it is distinctly African. This is great background music for an outdoor party, a vacation or anytime you want an exotic and different choice of music. Get this CD--you will like it.

The Sun Ra Arkestra of Africa?,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kings of Benin Urban Groove 1972-80 (Audio CD)
African Sun Ra Arkestra? Well... that wouldn't be fair to say: the Orchestre may have been innovative, but never was Avant Garde and it probably had much less influence on the scene. . There are some similarities though: a vast catalogue of records issued in small numbers, and a core of members that have been loyal to the band for decades even if money was not allways available.I have been listening to music from the west coast of Africa for more than 20 years but the T.P. Orchestre Poly-Rhytmo has expanded my horizon. Highly recommended if you're into jazz, world music, funk and soul and have an eye for the not so mainstream. |
