Book Description

3 and upP and up
As King of the Barnyard, Kadoodle thinks he can do whatever he wants, including crowing at all hours of the day—and night. No one in the farm can get any sleep. Finally, Honketta the goose takes it upon herself to set this rooster straight. She tells Kadoodle a clever story about another king, whose big round eye shines in the sky during the day and whose chorus heralds his arrival every morning. Kadoodle wants to sing in this noble chorus, but doing so requires timing—and patience. Now he is perched to find out what it really means to be King of the Barnyard—but only if he can wait until just the right moment to do just the right thing.

Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

Self-proclaimed "King of the Barnyard," rooster Kadoodle crows when he wants to crow--including all night, which makes the farm animals so tired that they can't do their jobs. Then Honketta the goose "take matters into her own feathers." She tells Kadoodle a story about an even bigger king and his chorus--the planet's best roosters, whose job is to keep the King of the World awake so his "bright eye" will shine and make the corn grow. Kadoodle is eager to join this elite group, so the next day he proudly crows at just the right time. Hayward's animated prose will be great for reading aloud, and Goldfinger's charming, richly hued and textured illustrations incorporate plenty of playful perspectives, expressive animals, and whimsical scenes for kids to enjoy. Children will like this amusing, entertaining story, featuring a comical, egotistical protagonist who finds pride in a job well done. Shelle Rosenfeld

5.0 out of 5 stars My kids LOVE this book!, September 13, 2011
This review is from: The King's Chorus (Hardcover)
I have a 6 year old girl and a 3 year old boy. They both love "The Kings Chorus" and ask me to read it all the time at bedtime. I think it's because they are intrigued by the concept that the earth is moving continually around the sun (which the story teaches), and because they find the story kind of magical! They also find the story very funny, and love all the cute animal characters. A great buy!

This review is from: The King's Chorus (Hardcover)
Kadoodle is king of the barnyard and likes to strut his stuff, including crowing all hours of the day and night. Nobody on the farm can sleep - and it's up to Honketta the goose to set him straight with her story of another king and a different way of presiding over the barnyard. Fun drawings by Jennifer P. Goldfinger illustrates a fun tale.
