In this sequel, Ascii Entertainment added a journal feature that allows you to look back over everything that anyone has said to your character before during the game. Just as in the original, the pace is slow and dreamlike. The real-time first-person perspective makes the game feel like some sort of twisted nightmare, and the slow pace allows you to get a good look at all of the strange 3d-rendered enemies as they kill you. All of the enemies are rendered 3d objects, which adds to the twisted realism. I have never seen any game similar to this one except for Kings Field [i]; you should probably try it out before you decide to buy it. I haven't found any Save Crystals yet, so I don't know how many blocks a save uses. The game loads the surronding terrain continuously after it starts up (which takes about 10-15s, if I remember rightly), so you will not have to wait around after you begin playing. The rendering in this game is really beautiful; so far I can't remember having seen any polygon tear while playing it. The slow pace and bizzare plotline will probably make this game unsuitable for some younger players; it is near Resident Evil on the Absolute Terror/Shock gauge. Really twisted game; every PS-X owner searching for the strange and unusual should try it at least once. If you like this game, be sure to get Kings Field I as well.

King's Field (the original) received my full recomendation. King's Field II surpasses it. This game is everything the first was, and more. The world is larger and more detailed, the enemies are uniquely designed with an array of new faces along side King's Field I returnees. There is more user friendly command configuration, and a memory list of all the NPC's who have talked to you (no need for a sharp memory, like in the first). If you were even remotely interested in the first game, this game is more then double the value. If you are new to the King's Field world, this game will not spoil the first. Both are worth your time and money.

I enjoy this game as much as any RPG I have played. Haven't finished it yet, but it is more entertaining than the Final Fantasy Series of VII and VIII, toward the end they get very repetitive and time consuming to defeat the big guys. This one so far seems more practical in it's progression to the top levels. At top levels you will be able to defeat the bad guys in a reasonable amount of time, more with skill than with luck. Learn the movement techniques and the right weapons and you will be successful. Final Fantasy VIII results seem more dependent on luck of the draw. Sometimes your best spells are used, sometimes not. King's Field I seem to be able to control the outcome more. King's Field I can play without purchasing a Stragedy Guide, Final Fantasy is impossible without one. So give it a try, there are many interesting things you will have to figure out and some really determined monsters to cope with. Graphics are terrific, nice looking, you move fast from cave to dungeon to mazes. I love creeeping around those narrow walkways over the lava river underneath! One really nice ability is to recall conversations you have had with anyone you ever talked to, that has been a real help, you don't have to write anything down and can review them anytime you wish. Improvements? - 1. I would like the ability to save more convenient, and, 2. when I have been killed I would also like the game to start over at the last crystal screen where I saved it. 3. The map of Verdite is virtually unusable/unreadable, useless!

The graphics of this game were well-done, and the music and sound lent a very dark, foreboding atmosphere to the game, which fits perfectly with the storyline. Getting the hang of the battle system for first-timers may take a bit of work, but you quickly learn the value of the strafing buttons.

The dungeons are incrediably complex. You will find yourself revisiting them over and over again to use the items or new abilities you gathered to open up that other section or so. Add to that the complexity of the traps and the dozens of hidden rooms and monsters, and you could easily spend hours in each dungeon.

The storyline and character development are excellent, and you will quickly find yourself absorbed into the game, just wanting to get that one last area... And then find out that there's multiple endings.

Easily worth the money. Get it.

I've read many reviews on this game, and they're all divided. But, here's my review. The graphics are very good. Detailed enough to see what's what. The music is cool because it changes depending on the area that you are in, which serves as a guide to help you remember where you're at. Items like the Pixy Map, and others really, really help. The pace of the game is extremely slow, but what keeps you involved is the fact that you can raise your HP and MP levels to make you stronger, faster, and a more powerful Spell caster. I really like the enemies. There are a good variation of them. Bloodworm, Skeletons, Blobs, Spider-Women, Golums, Mummies, etc. I like the fact that you really have to raise your experience levels before attempting to go to new areas. Because, you'll know once you get there if you're not quite ready for those creatures. I like to open the chests and get items. That's fun because most of the items really aid you on your quest. While others, like coins, sometimes don't bring as much satisfaction as, let's say, a sword, shield, or Fire Crystal. This game is not a very action oriented game. It teeters on action and strategy. You need to learn which weapons work best for certain creatures. The only thing I didn't like about the game is the characters you talk to move too, too slow and they have no facial features whatsoever. Also, you need to read what they're saying. I'm sure they could've used real voice actors. That would definitely make it more interesting.
As my title says, "Addicting". I finished the game. But, I was so bent on finishing the game that one time my memory card failed me and I lost my game. I actually started over from the beginning and was careful to save two copies of the game, that way I always had a back up!! I'm in the information systems business, so I know about the importance about backups. Never thought I'd need it for a video game console. Shows that you can learn new things all the time, at a high cost unfortunately. Well, that's it. I recommend this game for those that don't mind featureless characters, and slow pace. But, traveling to different lands and besting the denizons that inhabit these lands is worth it all. Plus, by now, the game is pretty easy to find at a cheaper price these days.

I first test drove this game at the local game shop when I was 14.I'd been playing titles like FF3(Yes,I know it's really FF6 but I was rocking SNES.)since I was 12 and at the time,this game took RPG's to a new level for me.I found it expansive,immersive,dark and dreamy.I later got it for Christmas along with my first Psx but it'd been lost to the passage of time.I consider myself a retro gamer and have a penchant for the obscure.As for the seller,no problems there.It came when it was supposed to and in the promised condition.Check this game out!You might have a similar experience!

An excellent game with a wonderful story line. It is one I have played before and I will play again. It NEVER gets boring.

This is an AWESOME game!! The graphics of course are old, this was from back in the day! But the concept is cool! A little repetitive but you also have to go through mazes and solve puzzles! I enjoyed it alot!!

And I thought the 1st King's Field was great! King's Field 2 was one of the best sequel's ever. They took what people loved and improved on it. Instead of having to find magic crystals like in the 1st game to learn magic all you have to do is use your magic in this game. Basically you gain experience, your main sword called the Excellector gains experience and each of your magic attributes gains experience as you cast them while battling the minions of evil. King's Field 2, like the 1st game, is a totally open world. In other words, you can always go back to the first village you started the game in. Lastly, the story continues from the 1st game immersing you so deeply in the game you'll have to pinch yourself when you stop playing to make sure you're back in the real world! Even though this is a Playstation One game, I find it better than even most Playstation 3 games! Too bad King's Field The Ancient City's storyline for the Playstation 2 had nothing to do with the 1st 2 games, and it's gameplay was worse yet dispite the way better graphics... that's probably one of the main reason King's Field isn't around today... The 2 PSP King's Fields also destroyed the 1st 2 games reputation. Oh well. Enjoy this game and it's predecessor cause if you love a great story then you came to the right place! A game that could possibly be made into a Hollywood movie... or not. They'll probably mess it up unless I help write and direct it.
