The final King's Quest Game doesn't keep the same feel as the others, September 7, 2010

This review is from: King's Quest 8: Mask of Eternity (CD-ROM)
This game is the final game in the King's Quest series. Mask of Eternity makes the switch to 3d, and adds combat to the system, a marked difference from the more cerebral, completely puzzle based games that came before. It does have puzzles, but they're not the same in spirit. All the characters in this game are completely different from games prior, there is no Graham, Rosella, Alexander, and all because this game is not based in Daventry or even the same world.
I think this game was trying to update King's Quest to go with the times, as point and click adventure games were falling in popularity. The game is not bad on its own merit, I did play through the whole thing. But just don't buy it expecting another playful romp through Daventry, because this game is more of an RPG than a point and click adventure game. I think it's telling that this game is not included in the King's Quest collection.
