5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Adventure-gamey Goodness
If you like classic adventure games, this is the game for you! I grew up on these things, and they're great. They also improved my spelling and typing skills, since the first four are text-based.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great game, but doesn't work as well as I hoped.
For the price, I'm glad I got it since I love the KQ series. But my favorite KQ6 keeps locking up at points and I can't make it work. That makes me sad.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Great Early Years Of Sierra Inc. Long Gone, September 6, 2008
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Kings Quest Collection 7 Game Pack (CD-ROM)
I'm sure many people remember when the first Kings Quest came out in 1984 from Sierra Inc and grew up loving this series forever after. The first game started as you played a knight trying to win the throne of a kingdom and you did this by doing certain quest to return the treasures of the kingdom. The second game was now that you became king you have to have a queen and you see one in a far away place thus you begin your quest to find your future queen. The third game had you play a beaten orphan servant boy to an evil wizard and the quest was to free yourself from the wizard and find your true family. The fourth quest had you play the daughter of the king from the first two games the quest an this adventure is to save the life of the ailing king. The fifth game had you play the king of the first two games the adventure this time was to save your family from a n evil wizard out to avenge his brother for what the king's son did to him in the third game this was first kings quest that had voice actors but sadly they weren't that good. The sixth game had you playing the kings son from the third game this time it's the son looking for a wife and like his father finds one an a far away place being held captive the quest is to free your future bride and set free her homeland from the evil vizard this game also had voice actors but this time professional ones that did a very good job. The last of the true kings quest game had you play the daughter of the king from the fourth game this quest had you trying to escape from a attempted marriage and trying to find what you truly wished to do with your life this game also had great voice actors for the characters but this game also just made use of the mouse controller with a more point and click action rather than typing in commands like the previous four games. To those who have gotten use to the new games don't expect great graphics in the first four games as these were made in 256 colors at best the graphics aren't bad but again if your use to todays Pc games you won't care to much for these games. The audio as well won't probably be up to par with today pc gamers as the first five games use midi music instead of wav audio music again the sounds and music aren't bad but don't expect the audio music quality like todays games. To this box set for the price though I say to all people who played these games as kids growing up get this right away and remember fondly the bygone days of Sierra Inc. and how we played the pc games...

I grew up with Sierra and King's Quest, so I have always been a fan. It's definitely engaging, however it is sort of difficult to progress through the game without a walk-through tutorial, it's not the most intuitive game to be able to figure out on the whim. However look online and find walk-through tutorials (they're everywhere) and you'll have a blast with the game. The early versions of the game such as 1-4 have typing commands, instead of the point-and-click, but it helps to start kids off typing. I know it definitely helped me learn to type faster and more often when I was a kid playing this game. But the newer editions of the game 5-7 are all point and click with a mouse, and that's fun too, but not as rewarding in my opinion to point and click the entire time through a game. But that's how the evolution of gaming has turned. But definitely good clean fun, but definitely a looong game! So it's engaging for the kid to continuously try to master through levels of the game.

5.0 out of 5 stars On XP!, January 27, 2011
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Kings Quest Collection 7 Game Pack (CD-ROM)
I grew up with a Tandy computer -- definitely unlike what we have today! King's Quest was found by my dad, and my family had the most fun yet challenging time trying to complete the games. We couldn't save the game b/c the computer didn't have enough memory to save it. It took over three hours, with my little sis manning the keyboard and me, with the King's Quest Companion and acting as her navigator, we completed Romancing the Throne -- without once saving the game, which they say can't be done. She and I are proof -- it CAN be done, but it requires a lot of patience and deep breathing.
The games are truly engaging, and the back stories make them as interesting as a Disney animated film. It's fairy tales, Harry Potter, Twilight, legends, and mythology all rolled together. Kidnapped princesses, unicorns, evil wizards, talking animals, and the troubles of the royal family of Daventry, and your job tyring to help them -- who could ask for anything more?
The price is quite low, and the first four games will take a lot of typing skill - they improved mine, which might be part of the reason that I'm a secretary now. Definitely worth the price, and although some graphics are the old kind, these were critical thinking as well as entertaining for me and my sister.
Unfortunately, the original games burned in a fire. Maybe I'll get these for my XP!

This game is full of funny wit and satire and good puzzles. It will take you on an adventure where you need to click and check things over and over, trying to figure out how to move on to the next step. the stories are fun and the characters are usually pretty good. they just don't make games like this anymore and it's a shame!

My child was thrilled to receive this game pack but was very disappointed when she found that only the 7th game would actually play. The other 6 games would show that they downloaded but would not allow her to play. We tried everything, but there was a glitch in the system. Very dsappointing.

I don't play electronic games, for the most part, but years ago, as a graduate student, I remember playing one of the King's Quest games. Since then, I have never seen anything else quite like it, with the same mix of puzzles and adventure. If you also enjoyed playing these games, then you will love this package. It's all that you remember!

I bought this collection because I like old school point and click rpg's. About 3 of the KQ games in this collection are text driven so I didn't even bother playing them. The other 5 are point and click. This is a great collection if you like classic point and click adventures. They don't make games like this anymore which I think adds to their charm. So if you want to do some leisurely adventuring, then grab this great collection!

This game is meant for older versions of windows so it ran a little weird and i couldnt get past some parts of the game because of how fast my computer ran. and the game is impossible to win without cheating.
