5.0 out of 5 stars Pardon me, August 29, 2004

This review is from: The King's Record Collection: The Original Versions Of Songs Later Recorded By Elvis Presley, Volume 2 (Audio CD)
This is the second volume of "the original versions of songs later recorded by Elvis Presley". It includes songs that Elvis did from after his army induction, until near the end of his life. The songs here are all really good, and one can see what attracted Elvis to this material. It's interesting to compare the original versions to Elvis's remakes (assuming you wouldn't buy this if you weren't familar with the Elvis versions of these songs). In some cases the original version is better, and in some cases Elvis surpassed the original, although of course that is a matter of personal taste. I really enjoyed hearing the original versions of all these songs, but I do wish they had included more than 14 songs. Some other songs they could have included would be the original versions of: "Bossa Nova Baby", "Witchcraft", "U.S. Male", "Suspicious Minds", "You Don't Have to Say You Love Me", "I Really Don't Want to Know", "An American Trilogy", "Burning Love", "Steamroller Blues", "I've Got a Thing About You Baby", "My Boy" and "Hurt". But I would still recommend this CD to Elvis fans.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Series, August 15, 2004

Volume Two of this fascinating series delves into the tunes Elvis recorded and covered after being inducted into the military in 1958 and finishing with his last Top 15 hit in the 1970s, Chuck Berry's "Promised Land." Sequenced chronologically, the highlights include Ketty Lester's "Love Letters," Hank Snow's "A Fool Such As I," Lowell Fulson's "Reconsider Baby," Tommy Tucker's "High Heel Sneakers," Jack Greene's "There Goes My Everything," Jimmy Reed's "Big Boss Man" and Jerry Reed's "Guitar Man." Another fascinating collection that shows off both Elvis' wide-ranging tastes and his ability to jump between styles with consummate ease. - Cub Koda, AMG

4.0 out of 5 stars The collection of the King before He sang them, October 13, 2000

As most Elvis fans, we like to see where Elvis got some of his music. Alot we know was wrote for him, but some he sang of others, that they performed before he did them. It is a nice way to see how the original person sang the song before Elvis took over and made it a hit, or a hit again. I really enjoyed listening to this CD and also knowing where it came from, and then to listen to Elvis sing them, that is when you begin to appreciate the distictive and different ways he sang, he had a voice that would go thru many different keys, a macho sound, a airy rispy sound, to the dark soleumn sound. He learned that thru training his voice while in the army. Hope you will enjoy this. I sure did.. Try it.
