Five centuries, seven languages, and six singers with 35 years of remarkable experience inform this rare collection of choral music. In the world-renowned King's Singers resplendent voices, ancient and modern choral music comes to life with all the blazing immediacy and timeliness of the gospel of the nativity. With 25 pieces of music--ranging from familiar works such as "Coventry Carol" to the obscure Tchaikovsky piece "The Crown of Roses"--the King's Singers move through this hallowed and festive set with the vocal mastery that only three-and-a-half decades of accomplished work together is capable of creating. A number of contemporary carols written in the last century by composers such as John McCabe, Philip Lawson, John Rutter, and others are balanced by pieces by Bach and a host of traditional works. Lawson's "You Are the New Day," performed with a string quartet, stands out as one of the more notable performances. Like most of their music throughout Christmas, it reminds listeners that the art of music often interprets divine aspects gladly realized here on Earth. --Martin Keller

Stunningly beautiful! I deeply enjoy Christmas music - from the ancient, to jazz and pop - and main a diverse and festive holiday collection. While "Maxjazz-Holiday" is my secular holiday favorite, "King's Singers Christamas" is my hands-down, "knock-your-socks-off" favorite among traditional Christmas music. It is unparallelled in sonic beauty and musical expression of the historic Christmas story. I can become totally lost in the sublime beauty of these artists of a cappella voice. One track is more stunning than the next in sheer beauty, tonal blending, vocal textures, and musical expression of the Jesus nativity story. My deepest thanks to the artists who created this deeply moving collection of seasonal music.

What else can I say. If you are a fan of Christmas music and of the King's Singers you will like this album. I was originally trying to get CD versions of some older vinyl King's Singers Christmas albums I had purchased while living in Austria in the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, they are not available. This is a fine replacement. I would still like to be able to get the German album in CD form, though.

The King's Singers bring their mastery of blend and tone together for their latest Christmas album. It's difficult to comprehend how 6 men can produce such an amazing sound, but they do. They sing traditional Christmas music, such as Coventry Carol, Lullay my Liking, and Stille Nacht. This is the King's Singers at their best- exquisite acapella music that is contemplative and will lift up one's spirits. In particular, I recommend listening to their rendition of Bogoroditsye dyevo. If you still have time, I would recommend downloading the MP3s and listening to it for Christmas. If not, this can be listened to at any time of year.

First of all, this and any music by the King's Singers is top notch. Yes, the mood is slightly subdued compared to other Christmas music you may hear this time of year (Or even other KS Christmas albums), but it's perfect for turning out all the lights, sipping on hot cocoa, and talking around the tree; or, a candlelit dinner mood during the holidays. The KS are always as close to perfect musically as one group can get.

What I'm really appalled by are the prices that sellers are asking for this album. The starting price I'm seeing for a USED version of this CD is $89.93, and it goes up from there. Yes, it's an import, but it's hardly a rarity. Are these sellers unaware that the internet allows people to comparison shop for things that we probably would have had to pay an arm and leg for 20 years ago? I guess these sellers want to take advantage of the holiday gouging season. There is absolutely no reason to pay nearly $100 for this album. There are perfectly reputable websites out there that will sell you this album for less than $20. Or, if you still prefer Amazon, download the mp3 version for nine bucks. Buyers should do one of those things, and sellers here should be ashamed!

As all of The King's Singers music, I love it. I have been listening to them for as long as I can remember, and have enjoyed them for just as long. This seems to be a compilation of their Christmas music; 1 of the songs is definitely on another album. But as another reviewer I think alluded to, all of the songs on this album are very languid. The quality of The King's Singers is not lost in the slightest, in that regard it is just as wonderful as any other. None of the songs on this album are what I would call "familiar" in that you wouldn't hear most of them on your Classical Christmas music station during the holiday season. They are all very slow, moving, melodic, etc.. Beautiful, but more like something you have to be in the mood for, as opposed to keeping it on the full holiday music playlist rotation. (doesn't fit well sitting between White Christmas and

If you're looking for something a little more bright, or upbeat for the holidays, but want to stick with The King's Singers, I would go with their album A Little Christmas Music. That one is my 5-star King's Singers Christmas album...not 1 thing I don't like about it!

The King's Singers are a good group - so my expectations were high. This recording treats them well with a very clear and closely miked performance, however it's in an appropriately resonant space to serve the music well. The higher registers are especially well done.

The pieces are all relatively short, at least for someone used to classical pieces. It looks like the average for track length is around 3 minutes... on the good side, there are 25 tracks. I would have loved for longer renditions for some of the better-known carols, such as "Veni, Veni Emmanuel" or the Coventry Carol. Some of the tracks are new to me - and because of that - I am not sure how they sit with me as Christmas songs - I need to spend the time to acclimate these new pieces into my holiday repertoire.

This recording is a nice change from the "typical" holiday fare that's recycled each year - this is far more timeless.

This is the only disc I have heard, not only by the Kings Singers, but any male group - that compares to the unmatched unity of tone achieved by Anonymous 4. The selection of carols/tunes is uniformly fine - the songs, the artistry, and the recording are all absolutely first rate. Interestingly, the current version of the Coventry Carol is traditional and sublime - contrasting nicely with the more dissonant Kings Singers recording from 1992. Though I have always found the earlier recording to be wonderfully beautiful in an angular sort of way, this disc present traditional songs/carols of the ages in a uniform production. Five stars - sensational!
