cadences of contemporary Los Angeles swing,
By
This review is from: Kings of the Soul Punk Swing (Audio CD)
The lead singer and composer, Steve Moramarco, presents here a nice collection of recent songs from his band. They have been playing for over 10 years in Los Angeles, and several tunes reflect the local scene. One song, The Silverlake Stomp, refers to the suburb of Silverlake, in and around which many local scenesters live.
The soul, punk and swing of the subtitle reflects the styles you might find in the music. Certainly, there is a swing/lounge aspect to the mixture of instruments and their cadences. But not all the songs have the genteel, pablum lyrics of much lounge music. Some have a sharper edge that gives rise to punk-like tones. Interested listeners might also look for earlier albums by the band.
