“After twenty years a man walks out of prison and into as vivid and powerful a story as I have read in a long, long time. From the first sentence, you know that this is the real thing. The writer understands crime and desperation and anger, and the secret places in the heart that hide behind the violence. What an extraordinary ride!” --Whitley Strieber, New York Times bestselling author of Hybrids

It's like American Gangster meets the Soprano's meets Pulp Fiction. Terrific, well drawn characters with great dialogue give this glimpse at the the modern underworld of NYC an entertaining and compelling vibe. I recommend it to anyone and and look forward to the sequel.
I picked this book up because I was intrigued by the cover and the synopsis - it reminded me of GTA. The story within is filled with action and drama as Marcus "Crush" Casey begins his intricate plot to overthrow his once loyal friend turned most hated enemy. The beginning keeps you guessing, wondering exactly how his plan will come together? How long can he dodge the gangs with a bullseye on his back, and stay a step ahead of his sneaky parole officer who seems to have a trick up his sleeve? The words of wisdom he recalls from his prison mentor gives Casey the feel of a Jedi warrior on a mission, torn between the blood thirst of the streets and his higher calling. At times it seems he is smart enough to want more, but in the end I think he falls short. As strong as the story began, along with some of its powerful pieces throughout, the ending could've had more impact than it did - but entertaining.

Ice T might be the big name in selling this but readers would be well served to know that his co-writer "Mal Radcliff" is indeed Gary Phillips, one of the country's most underrated mystery writers and himself a prouct of the mean streets of L.A., where when not writing,he is a community organizer well familiar with life in the ghettoes where he grew up. Ice T couldn't have picked a better partner for his foray into fiction writing.
What a masterpiece of modern literature! Brought to you by the Shakespeare of 2012 himself, Ice T. After reading this book I lit my copies of Sherlock Holmes on fire and swore to read no other novels as long as there is the sweet breath of life in Ice T and his ghostwriter. If you're looking for a cracked out ride on the crazy train that is reading, LOOK NO FURTHER! With dialog such as "Ole Gerty taught us never to peep our hole card, right?" and "What kinda broad you want tonight? Big titties, small waist or an ass you can throw a saddle on and ride like a jockey? Or how bout one of each? Being my age, I got a shitload of Cialis 'round here some damn where". My hats off to you Ice T, now if we could just get Coco to write a book! Whats that? She has written a book worthy of equal shittiness? HURRAY!
