I purchased these under the assumption that since they were "made" by Kingsford, they'd be suitable for cooking with charcoal. Unfortunately, that was a poor assumption. The insulation is definitely not cotton, and is relatively thin.
I tried to use them when cooking with a dutch oven. I picked up a metal covering that I use as a wind screen, and by the time I placed the cover back down on the ground, I could definitely feel the heat coming through. So I went back to using my old oven mitts, which kept the heat out just fine. Fortunately, the Amazon return process worked pretty well. Positives: the mitts fit well and the metal ring would make hanging the mitts easier than using just a cloth loop. |
