5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for
This is a really nice shaving soap dish, it is well made, very attractive, doesn't take up much space, and is very functional for men who still shave with a brush. For the price this dish is outstanding. I got it as a gift, but plan to get one as a gift for my nephew. Included with the gift was a Nickel Shaving Brush Holder, which was well made and which I also give five...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not deep enough
This is a VERY attractive piece to add to your wet-shaving kit, albeit impractical for the tall cylindrical col. conk soaps Ive grown to love, at first. If you can tolerate waiting until your soap cylinders decrease in volume, or manually cut down your soaps, this dish is A-OK.
Otherwise, spend a little more money on something else that simplifies the process.

5.0 out of 5 stars its a bowl made out of wood., March 26, 2009
This is a very nice bowl. Thats really all this is. A wooden bowl! So if you looking for a wooden bowl this is the one for you! As far as the soap pucks not fitting. Take a soap puck chop it up into little pieces put it into a container that you dont mind being soapy. Microwave it for about a minute or until its melted. Pour it in your nice new wooden bowl and you are now rocking out a bowl with soap in it that also closes. It looks and works great. You also dont feel like a monkey training for NASA trying to figure out a the square peg round hole puzzle.

2.0 out of 5 stars Mediocre, at best., June 26, 2009
I bought this so I didn't have to keep my soap in the plastic container it came in. I lather on my face, so the fairly shallow depth described by the other reviewer didn't bother me. Overall, it looks good - solid, outside well-varnished, and not reeking of varnish like the other reviewer's one. However, there were a couple of negative things that stood out for me.

Externally, it looks good (I got the Natural Wood one, so I don't have the stain issues the other reviewer does). However, it's when you take off the lid that the first issue arises. The inside is not only unsealed, but it's not even finished properly. Mine still has splinters hanging off the whole bottom, and half the sides. Since I planned to melt my soap into this bowl, this unfinished rough surface is definitely not going to work for me. I now have to go out, buy some wood varnish and sandpaper, and sand the inside down and varnish like the shop should have done in the first place.

The other gripe concerning this bowl is the lid. Clearly the lathe operator was drunk, because this apparently round lid is not round when you try to put it on the bowl. When I rotated it, I found that it fits so tightly in some positions that I can't get it fully on, while in others it's so loose that it will actual slop around sideways.

Overall, while this product will do the job, it's not a quality piece of work, requiring a bit more annoying work from you to make it perfect.

2.0 out of 5 stars PRETTY; NOT USEFULL, November 16, 2009

This review is from: Kingsley For Men Wood Shave Soap Bowl with Lid - 1 ea (Health and Beauty)
Nice woodwork. The block of shave cream came to the very top of the bowl, so the lid would not sit into the bowl. When you want to whip up some lather, with the brush, the bowl is so light weight that you have to hold it with the other hand. The lid has no handle, so you have to pick up the lid from the side, and get slippery shave cream on your fingers, which you have to wash off before you handle the razor. Like some of the other things men have to deal with: they are pretty, but not very useful.

Echoing the other reviews, this is not quite deep enough for the Col. Conks soap. Which I can't fault it, I did read the reviews. I just don't understand why this product is paired up with the Col. Conks product, probably because people like me read the reviews and still purchase both anyway.

Anyhow, it looks nice on my shelf and after a few shaves the soap begins to fit. But for 11 dollars, I think I could have used a classy coffee mug instead.

Basically, its a bowl for holding soap, but it doesn't do that quiet as well as a free mug. Save your money and use something else.

I just needed a cheap and easy way to store my shaving soap, without the purchase of a shaving mug. This bowl looks nice on the counter, and keeps the suds nice and dry. If you purchase the Colonel Conk shaving soap (I recommend it!), the soap cake doesn't quite fit this bowl. You need to use it a few times and let the soap wear down a bit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Durable and looks great, January 30, 2009

I bought this product months ago and was concerned if it would hold up with all the wet soap and water. It still looks great, no cracking or warping. It's easy to clean and I would strongly recommend it.

I bought this shave bowl for my husband because he prefers to use shaving soap and a brush rather than the foam or gel products. This shave bowl not only holds the soap, but it is attractive, also.

It is simple and beautiful. I am giving a gift bag with everything for my son who is into Civil War reenactment. I am sure he will like it.
