Kingston DTVP 3.0 USB Flash Drive
Compatibility Table
Data Security to Safeguard Your Sensitive Business Information

Kingston's DataTraveler Vault Privacy 3.0 (DTVP 3.0) USB Flash drive provides affordable business-grade security with 256-bit AES hardware-based encryption using XTS block cipher mode, which offers stronger protection than CBC and ECB modes. It protects 100 percent of data stored and enforces complex password protection with minimum characteristics to prevent unauthorized access. For additional peace of mind, the drive locks down and reformats after 10 intrusion attempts. It also features a read-only access mode to avoid potential malware risks.

Easy to Deploy Solution from a Trusted Partner

Companies can add DTVP 3.0 to their standards list with confidence since its industry-leading NAND and controller design allow for NAND to be interchanged without requalification and certification of security features. Plus they no longer have to compromise transfer speeds for safety, due to DTVP 3.0's SuperSpeed USB 3.0 technology and backwards compatibility with USB 2.0.

Why Choose Kingston?

DTVP 3.0 is backed by free technical support and legendary Kingston reliability.

I'm very happy with this drive!
HarleyPhreak
It's so frustrating when you research something extensively, find exactly what you want, and then realize that it does NOT work as advertised.
Tex
It can be re-formatted and set to check for and repair file errors in much the same way as a standard hard drive.

I already owned a 16gb Kingston flash drive, so knew this one was likely to be straight-forward to use, robust and reliable. On initial inspection and my experience so far, I have noted absolutely no problems with this item in the robust and reliable areas, except that the mini-lanyard supplied for attaching it to a keyring does not itself offer much security - so could prove the weakest link of the chain.

Because of the security features, it is not quite so straight-forward to use as my Kingston Digital DataTraveler R30 (now superseded by the Kingston Digital 16GB USB 3.0 DataTraveler), but since that is the whole point of this model, and the reason for it being more than twice the price of the same storage capacity from other sources, the inconvenience of having to remember and input a password cannot be held against it.

Initial set-up also takes a little longer, and not only does the password you input have to be six to 16 digits long, but it has to include at least three of the four potential components - upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. So it should end up just as secure as access to your bank account, quite possibly more-so.

Write speeds are much lower than read speeds and it would take a significant amount of time to fill the whole drive with existing files in a single session. But how often would you want to do that? For most business and professional use, even multiple files - all those created or modified in a single day, perhaps - the job will be done in the blink of an eye.

Be warned, though, the nominal 16gb capacity is whittled down to a practically useful 14.2gb, only 89%.

Fast drive, encryption feature works great. BUT having real problems when trying to eject the drive. Get error message saying cannot eject because it is being used by Finder. I keep trying to eject and ultimately have to manually remove it. Am worried that eventually the drive will become corrupted. If it continues like this will need to seek a replacement.

Update: Thanks for your response Jewel. I have a question. The method you described using the Ctrl key, is this the only way to properly shut down the drive? What about using the Eject Icon" next to the drive in the Finder sidebar? That is the method I have been using which has been having trouble. The eject icon is how I eject all my drives, including the Kingston Locker+. Please advise if the failure of the Eject Icon to properly eject the drive is standard or indicates a problem with my drive. I would think that the Eject Icon should work as the method you describe is not ideal as it requires too many steps. Thank you.

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the DTVP30 secure flash drive. To shutdown and eject the drive properly hold down the 'control' key and click once on the 'DTVP30' icon in the dock. This will display a menu, select 'Shut down DTVault Privacy30' to end the DTVault program and eject the drive. If the drive does not eject properly with this process please contact us so we will be able to troubleshoot with you and if needed set up a warranty replacement. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

I'm very happy with this drive! My old PNY 2 GB encrypted drive was great and served me well for about five years, but it had become difficult to use because the software only worked on Windows XP and you had to have admin rights on the machine. Over that time I'd switched from Windows to Mac and my old drive became useless to me.

I'm now on a MacBook Pro with OS X and I run both Windows 7 and Ubuntu in a virtual environment and this drive is much more flexible because it works on them all. The encryption is hardware based and drive has software for each OS. What's cool is the user interface looks the same no matter which version (for the operating system) you are using. The case is metal instead of plastic so it's much more sturdy. This is hands down the best encrypted USB drive I've used.

I just like to have a password on this. I can keep some bank password on here when I travel with my laptop. If the laptop is stolen - they don't have my passwords as I keep this in my pocket. If this gizmo is stolen - nobody can look at my contents.

I like the password security that will deter most criminals if it somehow gets out of my hands. This is my 3rd one that replaced an old 1gig that my win7 laptop refused to operate.

The casing is unbelievably cheap. It was slightly bumped (nothing highspeed or major, just the sort of thing that happens sometimes) and the drive started coming out of the casing and now it is not useable. Way too expensive for something that minor to break it.
