5.0 out of 5 stars Very good drive, but you are better off with the 1GB model for the price
This drive is fine. The problem is that there is very little price difference between this drive (the 512 MB model) and a larger drive (the 1GB model). For six bucks more you are better off getting THAT drive which is twice the size of this one.

Other than that, considering the 512MB OR 1GB model, you really have just enough space (for a really good price)...

3.0 out of 5 stars Kingston 512 MB Data Traveller
No problems with USB memory storage. I would have ordered more if they did not have to be packaged and shipped seperately.

This drive is fine. The problem is that there is very little price difference between this drive (the 512 MB model) and a larger drive (the 1GB model). For six bucks more you are better off getting THAT drive which is twice the size of this one.

Other than that, considering the 512MB OR 1GB model, you really have just enough space (for a really good price) to perform all your daily tasks -such as moving Powerpoint presentations (or songs and video) between computers.

Haven't used a "flash drive" before? You pull off the cap and plug the drive directly into your computer's USB port. (You don't need any software or drivers to preload - just plug it in to any computer.) When it is plugged in the computer automatically recognizes it as a new drive right on your desktop. I.e. Go to your "My Computer" section and it now shows up as a new drive. You then treat it like you would any other drive -you can just drag and drop files to it.

One final note: the place where a line attaches is on the drive body itself, and not the cap. This is good because if you attach it to something it won't slide out of the cap leaving you with an empty cap tied to your neck (or keychain) with no drive...

And finally, I think this is a great present for non-techies. My parents have finally become converts and they use a drive like this all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most durable product I have ever seen., April 24, 2007
This review is from: Kingston Data Traveler USB flash drive - 512 MB ( DTI/512 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I have had one of these for about two years now. I use it mostly for text files, and so I'm not even close to filling it up. It always works correctly, whether on PCs or Macs.

What really impresses me, though, is how durable it is. I'm your basic teenager and have it on the end of a lanyard with my keys. I've swung it around and accidentally let it go, sending it flying into the wall - no problem, still works. I've left it on top of the toaster oven for a couple days by accident, and although the case is a bit melted, I haven't had any problems. I once dropped it in a lake, and even then it was perfectly fine once I dried it off correctly. (I recommend cracking open the case and using a hairdryer, worked for me.) Most recently I forgot it in a computer and returned to see that someone had broken it off. I pulled the metal bit out of the port, opened up the case, snapped the two pieces back together, superglued the case back, and it's working perfectly. Yes, it's actually been broken into four pieces and I haven't lost any files. I would definitely recommend Kingston to anyone looking for a good data stick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well pleased..., August 23, 2006
This review is from: Kingston Data Traveler USB flash drive - 512 MB ( DTI/512 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
As an Instructor, I present my students with flash drives to store their information, present their homework on, and for whatever other purpose they choose to use them for. The students love them! I take photos of the classes, which the students store on the drives, in addition to storing music, photos and other files. I formally used CD-RWs, but the small size of the drives, and the ability to wear them around the neck for easy accessibility, makes these a far better choice. The students no longer need to carry their notebooks to class. The price continues to drop, allowing for me to purchase higher capacity drives.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Happy, March 14, 2007
This review is from: Kingston Data Traveler USB flash drive - 512 MB ( DTI/512 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
I was very happy with my recent purchase. The product was just as described. The price was unbelievable. Just wish I could have purchased more of them. Appreciated not having to mail in a rebate for this flash drive. I do wish that it had a secure area for storage - other flash drives have this option.

This review is from: Kingston Data Traveler USB flash drive - 512 MB ( DTI/512 ) (Retail Package) (Personal Computers)
The data transfer is very very slow. It wasn't mentioned at the time of purchase that the product has a USB 1.0 or a 2.0. I still don't beleive that this product is a USB 2.0 . I have thrown away the product packing and now has now way to track its specs., . If you want to purchase this product, check the specifications and then purchase.

If you're looking for just one (1) flash drive go to Wally world and buy it....but make sure it's Kingston. What you'll get: (1)The best of the best in flash drives. (2) No waiting for shipment (3) A high price (but hey, it's only one). If you're looking for quantity, a LOW price and can wait a few days for shipment...Go with Kingston and Amazon. What you'll get: (1) The best of the best in flash drives. (2) A few days waiting for shipment. (3) A very low price. (4) A smile on your face. (5) A little smarter. You will not be disappointed with Kingston (or Amazon). Oh yeah, it will also make you wonder why you're still recording to disc.
