Works, but that Sleeve is Frustrating,
By Pickle Paul (Eastern Pennsylvania, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 112 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT112/16GB (Black/White) (Personal Computers)
Briefly, it seems to do the job at reasonable speed, but that "protective" sleeve is worthless. It is supposed to slide over the metal connector portion to protect it. This would be a good idea if there was a good indent to keep it in place. It would be a great idea if you could "lock" it into place. Instead, it simply slides down at the slightest touch and your drive is completely unprotected.
Also no loop for a keychain, if you care. In short, I think there are better drives. The best part of this is drive is that Amazon seems to be offering it without the plastic package for low cost, but only good if you're not going to transport it beyond your desk (see above).

This USB flash drive is different than most in that it has a built-in slider mechanism to hide the contacts. The good is that there's no cap to lose. The bad is that the slider sometimes is a bit difficult to slide with one hand, and it doesn't include a lanyard or wrist strap, despite having a slot in which to loop one. Fortunately I had a spare that I was able to use. These little things are easy to lose, and I always use a lanyard to wrist strap to keep track of them.
The performance is great, fully USB 2.0 compliant. I also like the activity LED is not some weird color or outrageously bright. It's a nice, small, subtle green.

Fine flash drive,

The drive recognized w/o a problem on an older WinXP laptop and seems to work fine. It is very small and light. The protective slide that other reviews mentioned as falling off seems to be quite sturdy in my drive.

What is there to say about a flash drive? This one is considerably smaller than most (check dimensions), I like the capless design and it works. Speaking of it working, I've had some problems with these USB solid-state drives, although they theoretically should be problem-free. I'd recommend buying this - and most things - only when shipped or "fulfilled" by Amazon. That way you can return it easily if it doesn't work.

For all of you looking to take advantage of the newest feature of your xBox 360, you have found your flash drive! I picked up the 16GB version on the Deal of the Day last week and crossed my fingers that it would work. This drive passed the test and is working great for me. This is definitely a wonderful alternative to the expensive special edition Sandisk that they are releasing next month.

Surprisingly fast for a 32GB drive,

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 112 - 32 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT112/32GB (Black/Yellow) (Personal Computers)
I bought the 32GB version, and I was immediately shocked at how well it performed. 32GB drives tend to be excruciatingly slow, but this one easily manages 23MB/sec read and 9MB/sec write speeds for large files--faster than many current 16GB drives. This kind of performance is essential for someone who uses the drive for portable apps, so it was very much appreciated.
The sliding cover seems to snap fairly loosely in the closed position (making it a bit too easy to knock it back open by accident), but locks firmly into place in the "open" position. This is unusual, as I'd have expected it to be the other way around. But as I wear my USB drive on a chain around my neck, this isn't an issue for me--the main purpose of the cover seems to be to prevent the USB plug from snapping off, which isn't really a risk with a lanyard. The device is about half the length of a standard USB flash drive, which protects it from being damaged when used in a laptop or netbook. Typical "full-sized" drives are a bit too easy to knock and bend by accident when using them in a mobile computer. Overall, I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a fast 32GB USB drive to use for portable apps or even just normal "sneakernet" file transfers. One word of warning, though: Buy this directly from Amazon or another well-known reputable seller. Kingston drives, particularly the larger models, are known for counterfeits.

Although the price of this product was right, I can now see why. Unless you have the strength of a 3 week old, when you slide the cover closed, it falls apart, and is not easy to put together without breaking the memory board. If you are able to get it to close, the next time you retrieve it from your pocket/backpack/whatever, chances are, the terminal will be exposed--not good. Buy a good flash drive with a snap on cap, not a gimmick.

I bought this when it was on sale for $[...] with free shipping, and at that price point this is a great flash/thumb drive/computer sticky thing. However, it is now more expensive, so to purchase this for more than $[...] you're not getting your moneys worth, IMHO.
First off, it is pretty poorly designed. The sliding cover doesn't protect the actual USB interface from getting full of pocket lint, or anything else for that matter, which is the most important function of a USB cover. All this cover does is give you something to fidget with while holding your flash drive in your hand when bored. I must admit, though, that this is strangely satisfying. Secondly it doesn't come with any lanyard or even a ring to attach a lanyard to, just a hole that only the deftest of fingers will be able to thread a (very small) string through. but for $[...] this is fine. For more than that, it isn't. Third, there is no third. What crappy electronic doesn't have at least 3 things you can complain about? But no, not the Kingston Data Traveler. Just 2 crappy things, and pretty much nothing particularly special about it to rave about. it's 16gb of space, give or take. it's USB 2.0 fast, which is to say it isn't all that fast. Oh, it is small and gets lost easily, but for the few days that you do have it before not having a lanyard or keychain loop causes you to lose track of it, it won't take up much room on the face (or backside) of your computer, or in your pocket. And lastly, it does a decent job of ridding your pockets of lint as it sucks it all up while bouncing around lose in there getting scratched up on your keys and change because it doesn't come pre-loaded with Lanyard 1.0.

Kingston DataTraveler 4GB Flash Drive from Amazon.com,

I love being able to carry important files with me in a neat, tiny package. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I often find that the cover slides back during storage, exposing the connector. This was everything I expected.

What more to say? I use it to deliver large video files to a person who loads them onto Real Media servers. I've been using this flash drive for several months, with not a single problem. Writing speed could be a little faster. Otherwise, I would give it 5 stars.
