Kingston DT200 64G USB,
By
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler 200 - 64 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DT200/64GB (Black/Yellow) (Personal Computers)
I own two of these keys and have had to send both of them back to Kingston for replacement due to failure related to the connection between the PCB and the metal shoe.
I'm not rough with my devices and take care in handling them since I depend on them for my work. There is not enough support on the metal connector internally to handle the insert and extraction forces from plugging into the USB port. The device is very fragile. If you choose to own one, purchase a USB extension cable to use with it, to prevent stress on the connector causing a loose connection and failure of the device. The slide cover that slips over the connector also tends to slip back and forth when you don't want it to. This key needs a better case design for the money that you spend on it. The Sandisk Cruzer Contour case is a much better design for this format. Would I buy another one? No, it has already cost me more than it's worth in time and aggravation due to the failures and loss of data.

I second the review by V. Rooney. Product has lots of memory but it does you no good if the device fails.
Mine failed within the first week. They offered to replace it but seemed to act like this happens all the time and is no big deal. When I told them there's important data on the drive that I couldn't get to, the response pretty much amounted to, "Well, these things happen. No one's perfect." Now to get my money back I have to send this thing back with personal data on it, which someone may or may not be able to access. Don't buy this device. I'm now using the Corsair Survivor Flash Drive. Much better!

I called the Kingston folks to let them know the product did not function properly when I tried to down-load information to it. Some of the files were corrupt when I tried to use them...just simple word documents. In fact, this thing is so unreliable that I will not put information on it. The Kingston folks were nice and said they would honor the five year warranty. They asked me to find the serial number on the part of the device that fit into the USB port...there was no serial number. I was told that the lack of serial number indicated a fake device though it came in an authentic looking package indicating made in America. I will not buy a similar device through Amazon! Buyer Beware!!!

Beware: selling counterfeit Kingston 64GB Flash Drive.,

I bought this 64GB flash drive from ohan0101. It crashed every time I tried downloading files. After contacting Kingston, it appeared the product is a counterfeit! Evidence is absence of a serial number on the metal USB connector. I contacted the seller and received no response. I have now filed a claim with Amazon for reimbursement. More research revealed several reports of these fake drives being sold, also on Amazon. They should be more diligent about keeping out sellers offering fake products.

It may work for some, if you are a light user and keep the drive in your drawer and use it with one computer. Myself, I carry around my data to work and school, I hook it up to multiple systems. The drive failed to be recognized about 50% of the time. The reason: poor design. The drive is heavy and the section that attached to the USB is brittle, you can easily flick it with your finger back and forth. I contacted Kingston, they said they would send me a replacement but warned that it would not be any different and that they were aware of the problem.

Thank goodness I bought this from Amazon as they are excellent about refunding money for defective products. I read the reviews before I bought this 32 GB jump drive. I saw some "bad reviews" but they all seemed to indicate the product they received was not authentic.
Well, mine definitely was--authentic, that is--but after about five times using the product--it simply stopped working. And let me tell you it broke my heart as at first it seemed fantastic. I was able to put episodes of television on this thing TWICE AS FAST as my previous jump drives. I was so pleased, then--wham---plugged it in to watch some episodes and two seasons of television downloads simply GONE. I thought about having Amazon replace it--rather than get my money back, because it was so fast. But I decided as there were several reviews that had the exact same problem as myself--that I'd simply get a refund and try something else. Any suggestions? Buy this product and you'll be kicking yourself if you're unlucky enough to have it work for you past the return period. I'm glad mine stopped working so quickly--rather than three months down the road. And ironically, as I write this review I see Amazon RAISED the price on this crappy product. ***UPDATE October 10, 2010******** Update approximately 6 months later **************** I replaced this product just a few weeks later with a Corsair Flash Voyager 16 GB. I've had it about six months now without problem or incident. On my way to write a review about it now. PS: I'm not a techno geek, so this may not mean anything, but I intentionally went down in the storage from 32 GB to 16 GB because it seemed like everything I read, while searching for a replacement, about the 32 GB indicated problems with it, no matter what brand. Hope this was helpful!

Don't make the same mistake I made - You WILL be sorry!!,

I really think twice before leaving bad reviews on Amazon, but this piece of garbage really deserves it. I put 1 star because there's no option for no stars. I've had this drive for a week and right from the start it was extremely slow. Now, it JUST DIED! With all my data on it. Pictures, videos, work documents - things I'll never be able to get back.
I called Kingston to let them know about the problem. First they tried to convince me that my drive was a fake one. When I insisted I bought it off a reputable site, they asked me for the serial number before confirming it was indeed one of theirs. THEN, they told me I'd need to call the warranty department to see if they'd replace it! When I asked about my data, the guy essentially told me "Yea that's too bad". This is disgustingly disappointing. As another reviewer said, how are you supposed to send them your broken DataTraveler with all your data on it?? It's ridiculous. DO NOT BUY FROM KINGSTON!

I bought this flashcard from an Amazon retailer who has the price that is rediculously low compare to Amazon price, it turns out that the flashcard shipped from Korea (eventhough the retailer said he ship from the US in his store). The flashcard DOA ofcourse, it cost $30.00 to return the card to Korea to get my money back. Let it be a lesson learn, for those who want to take a chance, including me.

Most USB flash drives come with a cap to protect the USB interface and a lanyard so that the device can hang around the neck or from a peg. This device is designed differently. The USB interface can be withdrawn into the stick, giving some protection but not as much as you get from a cap. Unfortunately, the construction of the slide is poor and it feels flimsy and likely to break at any moment. It probably won't but frankly, I expect something that feels significant less cheap for this price. Other than that, the device in unexceptional and does what you would expect from a USB flash drive.

After several months of light usage, the drive is unusable. Several computers I use recognize that it's been plugged in, but you are unable to mount it and are therefore unable to get at it's contents. In general, I've tried to be very careful with the drive since it's construction is quite flimsy, but evidently not careful enough. A total piece of junk.
