Nice flash drive overall., April 15, 2009
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
Works right out of the box. No special set-up required (plug & play). Large 16GB capacity. A recognized brand name in memory components. This is a nice flash drive that has done everything I've asked of it. The retractable connector is nice (no cap to lose) and helps protect the connector from damage; but the flip side is that because the unit is open-ended, you can get dust/dirt/lint/pet hair/etc inside (but I haven't experienced that yet). When you push the connector out, the locking mechanism is a little flimsy, so you need to make extra sure the connector clicks in place before trying to insert it into the USB port. No biggie, but the first few times I used it I didn't even know there _was_ a locking mechanism! It's like the mechanism on a box cutter, only a lot less sturdy/reliable. The non-connector end has a cutout so you can attach the drive to a key ring or similar, but I'm not sure I would trust it (borderline flimsy), and the hole is too small to attach the unit to anything of substance. The outer body is made of hard plastic, and again "seems" to be somewhat flimsy, like it would shatter if you dropped it on a hard floor or that you could crush it with finger pressure alone; I'm probably being overly critical, but I'd still treat it carefully nonetheless. This is a super portable, ultra-lightweight unit with a lot of utility. I've used it to transfer files between work & home, to perform short-term backups, and a few other things. The Kingston Kono head logo lights up when the unit is in operation, which actually is kind of cool in terms of aesthetics, but also practical so you don't go disconnecting the drive while data transfer is going on (for those who don't like to properly shut down devices first before disconnecting). Overall, I'm real happy with this flash drive and have no problem recommending it.

Decent Thumb Drive. Big Problem, June 19, 2009
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
So far the thumb drive itself has been very good to me. I've had it for about two months and it is solid for transferring data. The only complaint that I have, and to me it is kind of a big one, is that the key chain trapping - the little piece of plastic to hook this in to a key chain - broke. This should probably be a part that is reinforced. Now there is the danger, for me at least, of either having it fall out of my pocket or go into the wash machine. Other than that, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap dependable, light weight flash drive.

Great Flash Drive., September 2, 2009
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
This is a great flash drive. I have been using it for a month and it works perfect, I use it everyday and love the storage space. I think Kingston is the best brand name out there. It has a little switch which pushes and pulls the connector in and out, it also has a lock. For me it has been very strong. I have a quarter pound of keys and when I place this in my usb drive both at home and work it supports the weight of my keys as they hang in mid-air. I think everyone should carry one of these around if you work with computers, they always come in handy. I only wish you could choose the color, but I can live with that.
