4.0 out of 5 stars Nice flash drive overall.
Works right out of the box. No special set-up required (plug & play). Large 16GB capacity. A recognized brand name in memory components. This is a nice flash drive that has done everything I've asked of it. The retractable connector is nice (no cap to lose) and helps protect the connector from damage; but the flip side is that because the unit is open-ended, you can...

2.0 out of 5 stars Was unreliable for me
Had problems with this flash drive; had issue where the contents of the drive would disappear causing errors, removing and re-inserting drive temporarily brought the contents back. Verified on multiple computers.

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
Works right out of the box. No special set-up required (plug & play). Large 16GB capacity. A recognized brand name in memory components. This is a nice flash drive that has done everything I've asked of it. The retractable connector is nice (no cap to lose) and helps protect the connector from damage; but the flip side is that because the unit is open-ended, you can get dust/dirt/lint/pet hair/etc inside (but I haven't experienced that yet). When you push the connector out, the locking mechanism is a little flimsy, so you need to make extra sure the connector clicks in place before trying to insert it into the USB port. No biggie, but the first few times I used it I didn't even know there _was_ a locking mechanism! It's like the mechanism on a box cutter, only a lot less sturdy/reliable. The non-connector end has a cutout so you can attach the drive to a key ring or similar, but I'm not sure I would trust it (borderline flimsy), and the hole is too small to attach the unit to anything of substance. The outer body is made of hard plastic, and again "seems" to be somewhat flimsy, like it would shatter if you dropped it on a hard floor or that you could crush it with finger pressure alone; I'm probably being overly critical, but I'd still treat it carefully nonetheless. This is a super portable, ultra-lightweight unit with a lot of utility. I've used it to transfer files between work & home, to perform short-term backups, and a few other things. The Kingston Kono head logo lights up when the unit is in operation, which actually is kind of cool in terms of aesthetics, but also practical so you don't go disconnecting the drive while data transfer is going on (for those who don't like to properly shut down devices first before disconnecting). Overall, I'm real happy with this flash drive and have no problem recommending it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Thumb Drive. Big Problem, June 19, 2009

So far the thumb drive itself has been very good to me. I've had it for about two months and it is solid for transferring data.

The only complaint that I have, and to me it is kind of a big one, is that the key chain trapping - the little piece of plastic to hook this in to a key chain - broke. This should probably be a part that is reinforced. Now there is the danger, for me at least, of either having it fall out of my pocket or go into the wash machine.

Other than that, I would recommend this product to anyone looking for a cheap dependable, light weight flash drive.

This is a great flash drive. I have been using it for a month and it works perfect, I use it everyday and love the storage space. I think Kingston is the best brand name out there. It has a little switch which pushes and pulls the connector in and out, it also has a lock. For me it has been very strong. I have a quarter pound of keys and when I place this in my usb drive both at home and work it supports the weight of my keys as they hang in mid-air. I think everyone should carry one of these around if you work with computers, they always come in handy. I only wish you could choose the color, but I can live with that.

Simply...Easy to use, Plug it in and it does what it is suppose to do.

No Crappy software to install, no conflict issues, etc.

Easy to carry around. Plastic holder can be a bit stronger or made out of a different material.

16GB gives me enough memory to not have to carry around multiple drives. Love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars More reliable & not a fake, June 27, 2009

This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
The Kingston DataTraveler is GREAT and works as expected.

I purchased 2 off ebay and found them to be "fakes" and didn't work right. I finally read some reviews, and ebay has many "fake" 2GB USB's that someone 'hacked' and sell as 16 or 32GB devices and they did NOT WORK.

I returned them and ordered from the "reliable" Amazon.com and these were PERFECT and are not fakes but the real deal and they work EXACTLY as "flash" drives are suppose too and 16GB holds all the photographs from my chick bike club Diva Angels

5.0 out of 5 stars DataTravelers are the only way to go!!, May 22, 2009
This review is from: Kingston DataTraveler I Generation 2 - 16 GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive DTIG2/16GB (Red) (Personal Computers)
16gb of storage in a reliable, thin, durable construction. What more could you want? This drive has a solid rigid shell and retractable usb connection that moves when you want it to and stays in or out when you want it to. This is my 5th USB drive and my 3rd data traveler drive. I have never had a problem with any of the Data Travelers. They have always been reliable and functional.

I got this product less than a month ago, because all the reviews for Kingston products were so great. Too bad for me that this one is a dud. It keeps giving me errors and randomly seeing or not seeing the files on the drive. If I unplug it and then reseat it usually fixes the problem. It's happening on 3 separate machine's so I know it's not my system.

I'm sure that any day now it will stop reading altogether so I've made sure to back everything up. I've ordered another (not kingston) that I hope will get here asap. The only good thing I can say is that at least it didn't die on the spot like my last one, so I have a chance to make backups.

Purchased in 2009 and used quite a bit and it's still working, so I'm a happy user. I remember hearing my friends talk about how their usb drives went bad and they lost everything they had saved on it (different brands though), but this one seems to be a keeper. Although looking at the prices of this now, I wouldn't pay what they are asking, you can find cheaper ones now.
