How does this work?
Clicking the “Test drive now” button launches a copy of this app on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), a web service that provides on-demand compute capacity in the cloud for developers. When you interact with the simulated phone using your mouse and keyboard, we send those inputs over the Internet to the app running on Amazon EC2 — just like your mobile device would send a finger tap to the app. Our servers then send the video and audio output from the app back to your computer. All this happens in real time, allowing you to explore the features of the app as if it were running on your mobile device.

5.0 out of 5 stars Flawless function December 27, 2012

This installed on my Kindle Fire (2nd gen, not HD), without problem. Works flawlessly with the Wi-Drive (also sold at This app along with the Wi-Drive allows one to transfer, copy, or delete files between devices....IT ALSO allows one to RUN FILES (such as music, video, etc) DIRECTLY FROM THE Wi-Drive for use on your Kindle, PC, MP3, cellphone, etc...WITHOUT HAVING TO TRANSFER ANY DATA. So you can have music, video (documents, etc), STORED on the Wi-Drive WHILE VIEWING them on your Kindle, PC, MP3, cellphone. This is great if you don't want to take up additional memory on your device, but want the convenience of easy (anytime access) to your content, it's also great for back-up.

Of Note: the Wi-Drive is a WiFi storage device (from 16GB- 128GB), that can connect via USB to a PC, MP3, cellphone, etc. for charging &/or data transfer.......the Wi-Drive CAN ALSO DIRECTLY CONNECT TO a KINDLE, PC, mp3, cellphone, etc., via WiFi as the Wi-Drive is itself it's own WiFi source (so that if you turn on the Wi-Drive's OWN WiFi you can share data from 1-3 devices simultaneously without the need for a wifi router or hotspot, but also allows you to use it in Bridge Mode with a wifi router). For those of us who have complained about the Kindle's lack of expandable memory for easy data storage, the Wi-Drive (while a lot more expensive than a memory card), serves well. The Wi-Drive is a bit smaller (in size and weight) than a traditional cellphone. To use the Wi-Drive (which comes boxed with a Mini-to-USB power cord with a detachable USB-wall outlet adapter, and brief manual that can also be found at[...

4.0 out of 5 stars A great idea with some limitations January 13, 2012
By Jon G
I have done a review for the Wi-Drive app for the iOS and luckily they both work the same. Just load up data, pictures, music, or videos onto the Wi-drive and turn it on. It is now a wireless access point that can be connected to using the Kindle Fire or any other wireless device. Also, up to three people can be on it at once accessing the same data. I cannot try this but Kingston claims this (or something similar). I have not had an issue with the wireless range of the Wi-Drive either. I have been able to have the Wi-Drive on the opposite side of the house and still be able to access it quickly. The Wi-Drive for the Fire opens up many more options because it addresses the Fire's small capacity.

Honestly, I never used the Wi-Drive much with my 16GB iPhone but it is a great idea for the Kindle Fire. It is very simple to navigate and it is pretty self-explanatory. Kingston did a great job with the app and the Wi-drive. It loads up photos,

Unfortunately, I cannot give the app 5 stars. Not because it is Kingston's fault, it is just because the Fire has some limiting video formats. It cannot play even the simplest video formats such as .wmv or .avi. Practically every video on my computer was formatted in .avi and while the format is very old it is still a solid one. I had a lot of trouble playing videos on the Fire through the Wi-drive and this has turned out to be my biggest problem with the app. I have not tried to put videos on the Fire itself, however that defeats the purpose of the Wi-drive considering videos can be rather large. To put large videos on the Fire's small 8GB, along with one's music, apps, or pictures can be make storage run out rather quickly. It isn't that hard to manage the space but it is something to keep an eye on.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really useful, a bit hard to use February 4, 2013
Verified Purchase
This little device is a lifesaver. I've used it on several trips, and having a stack of cartoons and movies for my nieces to watch has kept them from going insane on long road trips. It's very handy, works perfectly, and has decent battery life. The only quibbles I have are the controls; it's nearly impossible to see if the on button is lit or not, and the little lights that tell you it's working are nearly invisible. In both cases it's necessary to cup your hands around the eyes. I can understand why; low power leds don't drain batteries. But it ought to be visible in a car.

Despite that quibble, I would recommend it to anyone with the need. It's extremely easy to set up, the software works with iOS and Android (I've tried both), and while 32GB is fairly small, it's a way of extending the limits on devices that don't have built-in expansion. I've had it for about eight months, gone on four trips with it, including a multi-day trip across the country, and count it worth every dime.

There seems to be connectivity problems with the device, poor linkage to tables (Kindle or I pad) only workig as an external drive with cable not as a wireless device
