Works Flawlessly, February 7, 2009
This review is from: Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader with 2 GB SD Flash Memory Card FCR-ML+SD/2GB (Personal Computers)
I bought this memory card reader because I lost my previous
Memory Card Reader, which, incidentally, worked really well but didn't take miniSD and microSD cards.
This package comprises the
Kingston Memory Card Reader and the
Kingston 2GB SD card.
The Kinston Memory Card Reader is the same size as a regular SD memory card reader except that it is a tad thicker since it has to accommodate slots for SD, miniSD, and microSD cards. Both sides of the reader flip open. One side houses the slot for a regular SD card; the other houses a slot for a miniSD card and a slot for a microSD card.
Windows (XP) has no trouble recognizing all three slots as Removable Disk Drives and assigns each one a drive letter. For example, on my computer, the 3 slots show up on My Computer as:
Removable Disk (E:)
Removable Disk (F:)
Removable Disk (G:)
for the SD, miniSD, and microSD slots, respectively.
Function
--------
The SD slot works flawlessly with the Kingston SD card that comes with the package. I also tested the microSD slot with a couple of brand new Kingston 8GB microSDHC cards and had no problems. Windows recognized my brand new cards right off the bat and there was no need to get them formatted first. Nice!
Usability
---------
The reader holds the cards, especially the microSD card, very tight. There is an ejection slider for each slot for ejecting the memory card. It requires some effort to push the microSD card in and out of the slot because it's a tight fit and because the microSD card is so tiny. However, I think it'll be easier once the slot is broken in.
A lanyard tethers the cap to the main unit so the cap won't get lost. There's a tiny ring at one end of the lanyard for attaching the unit to a keyring.
Conclusion
----------
The Kingston Memory Card Reader and SD Card work flawlessly. However, do be aware that the Kingston Memory Card Reader is slightly thicker than a dedicated memory card reader for a miniSD or a microSD card. So, if you need a memory card reader for only a particular kind of memory card, a dedicated and more compact memory card reader might be the way to go. Otherwise, I would highly recommend this.

The only card reader you will ever need, April 28, 2009
This review is from: Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader with 2 GB SD Flash Memory Card FCR-ML+SD/2GB (Personal Computers)
This is the answer to my prayers - no more card reader that takes up space on your desk or too bulky to take in your laptop case. No more long USB cables to wind up or buying more than one card reader since most don't have the capability of reading more than a few different cards. I will be using the Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader to read my camera SD cards, cell phone micro SD card and MP3 player miniSD card. No more looking for those little adapter cards anymore either. This 9-in-all USB card reader has it all.
Side A: Supports:
SD
SDHC
MMC
MMCmobile
RS-MMC
MMCplus
Side B Supports:
microSD/microSDHC
MMCmicro
miniSD/SDHC
The
Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader with 2 GB SD Flash Memory Card FCR-ML+SD/2GB is lightweight enough to attach to a key chain. Comes with a "handy dandy" cord that allows you to attach the cap to the unit so you don't have to worry about loosing the cap and damaging the socket. When you plug the device into the USB port, the computer's operating system recognizes the device as a removable drive and assigns it a drive letter in "My Computer". There will be three new drives automatically. You can easily drag and drop files. No external power source is needed. It also comes with a 1.1 USB port cable for backwards compatibilities.
The 2.0GB SD card is an added bonus and the unit comes with a two-year warranty and free tech support.

Card Reader is a POJ, July 13, 2009
This review is from: Kingston MobileLite 9-in-1 USB 2.0 Reader with 2 GB SD Flash Memory Card FCR-ML+SD/2GB (Personal Computers)
We ordered this card and card reader to go with a new camera for my parents. We were sorely disappointed. The memory card itself is great, but the card reader didn't work. We made sure we had read all the instructions, and were all excited to download the first batch of pictures, but the reader was not even recognized by the computer. We tried different sizes of cards, different USB ports, and different computers, and nothin'! Since it came in a set, and we had used the card, we were unable to make an exchange or return the product. Is was a waste of good money. I would not recommend this product to anyone.
