Do NOT buy if your Mac came with 533 or 667 MHz DDR2 memory.,

This review is from: Kingston Apple 4GB Kit (2x2GB Modules) 800MHz DDR2 SODIMM iMac and Macbook Memory (KTA-MB800K2/4GR) (Personal Computers)
The back of the KTA-MB800K2/4GR package states that this memory is "Intended for use with Apple systems requiring 800MHz, 667MHz, or 533 MHz DDR2 memory modules. THIS IS INCORRECT!!!
I have an iMac with a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. It has the original memory, 2 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM. I wanted to upgrade to 4 GB and purchased the slightly faster Kingston KTA-MB800K2/4GR memory. It DID NOT WORK!!! Kingston Technical Support said that the Mac has problems with faster memory and recommended that I purchase 667 MHz DDR2 memory (Kingston KTA-MB667K2/4G) for my iMac. To find out what processor and memory is in your iMac, click the Apple icon in the top left corner, then click About This Mac. Upgrade the memory in your iMac with memory that is both the same speed (667 MHz) and type (DDR2). Buy this memory, ONLY if your Mac came with 800 MHz DDR2 memory modules!!! Do NOT buy if your Mac came with 533 or 667 MHz DDR2 memory. Good Luck!!!

Just got the memory today in mail, and was able to upgrade the iMac ('08 Intel Core 2 Duo) during my lunch, total time- 10 mins (well 20 really, had to find the instructions on Apple's website)... switched the chips, turned on pc and that was it.
The memory was 50% less for the EXACT same product, so you can do the math (not exactly option-pricing theory is it?). I got the same speed (800 MHz) as I had before in the 2GB, so it's not any faster, but now I can run my Garageband along with my Superior Drummer (full install/24bit samples) with an extra GB to spare. I've only had it for a day now, so hopefully it won't crap out on me (especially after all the good things I said)....

ordered this for my Imac 8,2 2.4 intel. it came with 2 GB. such a huge improvement in speed, feels like a new computer. an instant improvement especially with OSX Lion. as soon as I installed Lion i had thought i had made a huge mistake. i felt like this Imac just wasn't going to be able to handle the OS and thought about uninstalling it. until i realized i could upgrade the memory. So happy with this upgrade would definitely use it again.
I have used Kingston for years and this was my First use of it in a Mac. Works perfectly

Great product, under 5 minutes to install. Using the computer for a few days, I can really see some good performance from the 4x upgrade i did on my 2008 aluminum imac. Seems to be a fair price for 4GB, and with no holdbacks, I am happy with my purchase. Thanks, Kingston.

At some point in it's life, my iMac started to get a lot of spinning beach balls, Safari freezing, unable to run multiple application as it would cause complete freeze in that app and the most annoying was the Java Apps not loading. It's a 2008 that came with 2 MB of ram.
So...after researching potential causes, the swapping and ram usage in Activity Monitor was the most compelling, the ram increase seemed to be the first and most popular fix. Don't remember what I paid, $52 and I think shipping was free for this product. Installation was super easy. The computer recognized it straight away. I noticed the beach ball continued several more times after and there was still some Safari freezing for a little bit, the Java issue has not happened since the increase. I cannot say with any certainty what was causing my computer to act the way it did, it could have been certain Apps, maybe upgrades from Apple and subsequent upgrades fixed it, or actually the low amount of ram. It seems to be running much better now. I can run multiple applications without them freezing, there have been significantly less episodes of other types of freezing and video contents even multiple videos seem to run fine, so it has helped my style of computing. The iMac has been a great computer for the 3+ years I have owned it, hope to hang on to it for another year as it serves my needs. This upgrade in memory has extended this for me. However, in the computing world, speed and processing power and the need for it seems to increase daily and a new computer is inevitable. Bottom line, if you have an older iMac and it seems to beach ball a lot, you can't run multiple apps without freezing and running video, especially multiple video is cause issues, then an increase in ram might be the ticket...if you have the capacity.

I bought this because my stock 2008 iMac with 1GB memory was getting very slow. The 4GB really helped the performance. Even my browser and web pages load quicker now. Regarding 800 Mhz, the wording on the package I received clearly states that the memory is for 800 Mhz only. I'm not sure why the picture on Amazon doesn't match this disclaimer. If you have an 800 Mhz system, this memory will work great.

Not sure there's much exciting to say about RAM... This will work in 2008 model iMacs and is about as easy to install as anything out there. No problems whatsoever.

Swapping out the memory was very easy, remove the screw from the iMac bottom cover, pull out the 2 memory boards and install the new memory.
Powered up and the computer recognized it immediately. To be honest I have seen no improvement in speed going from 2 G to 4 G of memory. I was looking for an improvement in photo processing speeds. I'm sure if I was running multiple apps it would be better.

This is the way to get more speed out of your iMac. Just follow the clear directions and in 10 min you'll be sailing with speed you won't believe. Worried? Don't be. Buy these and kick butt.

I bought this for my 2008 iMac. I determined which type and memory speed I needed by using the About this Mac feature from the Apple menu. I used the instructions provided on the apple support site. Installation was quick and pretty straight forward. I can notice a difference in my computer performance already. I am very happy with this product
