This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V+Series 64 GB SATA 3GB/s 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SNVP325-S2/64GB (Personal Computers)
pro: second genration v+ series , faster read/write and TRIM support with APM ( will show temperature now on monitoring tools )
con: did not get advertised speed, was only able to get 205 read and 170 write. upgraded from the first generation v series(40gb) without TRIM support. wanted to upgrade to this because i'm running windows 7 now. currently only windows 7 and windows 2008 r2 supports trim.

Kingston SSD V+512GB,

This drive represents the most profound and best computer upgrade I have made since my first computer purchase in 1987! It is by far the most satisfying experience of anything I have ever encountered in any computer - except for maybe larger LCD monitors. The boot-up time is just awesome and ditto for application launch times. What can I say? I now know that moving hard drives will one day be a thing of the past - hands down! I can't wait for a 2 TB SSD at a price point below $300. I'm sure it will come one day. After this experience, I know that spinning hard drives will go the way of the floppy discs from years ago. I expect to use this NAND based drive for the next 50+ years before the memory cells deteriorate - longer than any hard drive would ever last. I replaced the Toshiba drive that came with my new 2010 15" MacBook Pro i7 with this SSD.

As a consumer SSD for end-user workstation the V and V+ series SSD's from Kingston are great replacements for boot drives in both laptops and desktops. We have bought several and been happy with all of them.
I withheld one star on the review, solely because of the write speed when compared to other devices within 10% of the cost. Not a knock on Kingston, just a comment on comparative performance. Read speed is totally in line with similar models from other manufacturers. The V+ SSD matched the performance specs quoted in my tests, although there were some interesting variances in the drive performance graph. I use different PC's with at least one of these devices everyday for about the last 6 months and I have had no issues with performance or reliability.

I didn't achieve anything like the speeds they were advertising. This was on a fresh install of windows 7 x64 with 24GB RAM, Dual 2.93 GHz i7 processors. I think the max read/write rate I got was 180/90 MBps, with application loading at around 50 MBps. Too bad, because I was really exited that they finally had TRIM support for a fast 512 Gb SSD. I'm going to return this and wait for intel to come out with a larger version.

I did not buy from Amazon. You can get new one from eBay much cheaper. Just be aware of sellers' rating.
Sad news from HDD from SSD is that you will have to sacrifice big gigabytes for SSD unless you can afford 512GB. However with external drives so cheap lately, no need to hog all 500gb. I found 128GB enough for me to do productive work, including Parallels Desktop. Whole installation took less than 20 minutes. Just unscrew your back of laptop and pop old one out and put new one in. If you use MBP, securely fasten with two black bars so that it does not touch the surface of your MBP. Or simply, check out some youtube videos. I find dramatic speed improvement. What took me 40-50 seconds to boot, now takes 18-20 seconds with all heavy programs (Adobe suites, Parallels, Office 2011 mac and more). I think it took like 15-16 seconds at factory setting. So you won't regret it. Open iTunes, or calendar. Icons on the dock bounces only once. Heavy one like Photoshop bounces twice at most. I can now agree with people who purchased earlier saying that they can never go back to HDD. It really feels like a new laptop with $160 SSD(128GB) upgrade. Yes, I recommend it.

Never had any of the common problems associated with SSD's. I have XP and Vista 64bit installed, no problems ever.

Made a HUGE difference in load times of OS and applications likewise. But increased power consumption. Doesn't make sense, thought SSD was all about power consumption reduction as well.

Easy install for a Win7 64-bit rig using a somewhat dated Asus A8N-SLI deluxe mobo. Gives a disk performance score of 7.1 (out of 7.9 max) on the Win7 benchmarks. Much speedier than my previous (non-SSD) configuration.

So far, so good,,, I'm impressed with it's install and operation, the migration was easy and up and running in no time, including those apps that write a secret key somewhere,,,, they all worked! Great value for the money...
