Smart marriage of technologies,

This is such a convenient device and smart idea! It's absolutely great to have a portable flash drive and an SD card reader in one. My first concern was if I could see both drives at the same time when connected to my computer. Yes! Both the 2GB flash drive and the SD card can be read as separate drives simultaneously. Not only that, you can copy/move files between the two also!!
The only con is the flimsy string/keyring although it's similar to most other flash drive only keyrings. The keyring should have been attached directly to the unit for a more secure attachment because the flimsy string could easily break or tear.

Great device. Copies data quickly form SD Card to and from PC. Performs well. Would have given it 5 stars, but the plastic case is poorly made.

This is the second card reader I've owned from Kingston. I lost the first one that was only a card reader and had no built in memory. This thing is great! I have a Garmin Nuvi GPS which plays MP3s from a SD expansion slot, and both our cameras use SD cards for memory expansion so this is great for transferring images/music to and from the SD cards. Plus the 2GB built in is very handy. I'm a network admin and made this card boot to pendrivelinux so I can boot up and work on a machine that may have problems with Windows. Enough space for linux and all the apps I need.
Only downside is the flip cover. It is a little fragile and took me a couple times opening it to do so in a way that I didn't feel like I was going to break it off. But as long as you're careful with it I don't see it being a problem.

not worth any amount of money,

I bought this because I wanted both the services of a thumb drive AND a card reader, and all the reviews were positive. Unfortunately, I'm about to return the 4th one to Kingston. They have replaced them easily enough, but none of them have had a functioning card reader. I had my IT guy at work try it on several machines and with different cards to no avail. Kingston makes some good products, but unfortunately this isn't one of them.

I got this because I imagined it as an inexpensively upgradeable USB drive: you've got some memory built in and can read SD cards. It would allow me to curtail the growth of my pile of aging USB drives, trading them for a pile of SD cards.
It worked as I'd hoped - for a year. Between the SD card and built-in memory, I had 18GB of portable, flexible memory. If I needed to read another card I had a card reader on hand, too. I had no problems with the reliability of the device - for a year - unlike some other reviewers. (I interpret the number of comments on reliability to suggest Kingston might want to look into quality control on these devices, and buyers beware.) After a year, Data Traveler Reader started going downhill. First, the snap on the flip cover broke, so I had to hold it closed with a piece of tape. (My lesson: don't click it open and closed for idle amusement.) Now the Reader is insisting any SD chip inserted into it is write-protected (and the cards are not locked, I checked the protection tab). Still, after a year spent in my pant's pocket that's more reliability than I'd hoped for. I wrote this review as I came back to buy another one.

This works fine with Macs and it's a great way to use SD cards for memory and then use it for other devices too.

This is a very good product, the only problem with it is, that it is too bulky., otherwise great job.

Where is the memory?,

This item is just the reader and the adapter, NO MEMORY.
When they say 2GB I guess that's the limit of the reader? Who knows? Still a nice design and all, just add memory and go. I love Kingston, really I do!

Kingston Data Traveler a must have item,
This review is from: Kingston Data Traveler Reader 2GB Flash Drive and Memory Card Reader (DTCR/2GB) (Personal Computers)
Sometimes you want to put images from a digital camera onto a computer that does not have an SD reader slot, and you don't want to continually lug the USB connector cable around with you. The Kingston Data Traveler Reader is the perfect answer since there are very few PCs around that do not have a USB port handy. Other USB, non-thumb drive SD card readers are available but it is very convenient to have the extra 2 GB of thumb drive space for other tasks, as well as moving files from the SD card to the thumb drive. (The thumb drive has to be plugged in to a computer to do this.) So far I have owned two of the Traveler Readers because the first one was stolen and I liked the system so much that I replaced it right away. The Kingston Data Traveler Reader handles both SD and SDHC cards, making it adaptable to the rapidly changing SD card market. I highly recommend it for anyone that uses any type of SD cards.

I wanted an SD card reader to transfer photos from my digital camera to my Mac and found this double-duty gadget, a USB drive and DS card reader in one. I really like that! I can use it to transfer things TO the SD card, too. I like it and would give it a five-star rating if the cover for the SD card slot weren't such flimsy cheap plastic.
