5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny & Very Well Made!
This is the littlest micro SDHC card reader I've come across. It's very well made. It reads & writes extremely fast. The casing is metal, NOT PLASTIC! Way to go Kingston on a very amazing product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Great For Less Than Two Months
Neat little device which served me well for about a month and a half. Then I started to get the "device not recognized" message. After another week or so it never was recognized again. The micro SD I purchased with it is functioning perfectly in another adapter. Fortunately I'm not out much, but a brand as respectable as Kingston should probably do better than this.

Update:
After about 11 months of use, the reader pretty much cracked and stopped working. Given that it's such a small device, and on my key chain all the time, this still seems like a reasonable lifespan. It still protected the memory card, so I was able to reuse it when I got a new reader. I regardless, I'm going to continue to recommend this just because of how small it is, but I suppose you just have to be aware that it's more fragile than I initially thought.

I've had this since January, which means that I've been using it for around 6 months. It has worked flawlessly. I keep it on a keychain with other keys and it is always in my pocket, which means that it is subject to some pretty harsh conditions. However, it has held up very well. The black paint (which says kingston) has all worn off, but it has exposed a nice silver-metal color. The body appears to be mostly made out of metal.

Reliability is really based upon which microsd card you choose to use with it. Currently, I have an 8gb card. But if you have an unreliable card in the device, then the device will obviously appear to be malfunctioning even if it is not.

My only advice, and this is based upon personal experience with other products, is to apply a few drops of liquid super glue to the knot at the end of the lanyard. This will prevent it from coming undone and possibly allowing your reader to come free from your keychain.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great as a card reader, poor as a flash drive., October 14, 2011

I bought one of these to use as a key-chain flash drive. Basically, this thing is not nearly durable enough to serve such a purpose. It took about 3 months for it to poop out.

It's made up of 3 pieces, it has a plastic case, a metal sleeve, and a circuit board with contacts for the card and for usb. The board is what ended up failing in mine. Best I could tell is that it was a component or board failure and not a contact failure.

I am, however, buying another one. I'm an android phone user so I deal with micro SDHC a lot. This is an incredibly convenient card reader (just don't lose it!)

This is the absolute minimum any USB connector could be, lacking even the usual metal shield. You wouldn't believe it could connect to a standard USB, but it does if you insert it properly. I don't think this would hold up to a lot of handling, but it's fine if you keep it somewhat protected, like in a pocket of your camera or laptop case. I've had it for about six weeks and had no problems with it using up to 32 GB micro SD cards.

Hi

I have three of these. Work great with my 4, 8, and 32Gb micro SD cards. No issues except you have to look at it before you plug it in as it's possible to plug in upside down. I haven't found a USB stick as small as one of these with a micro SD card.

I use one to port stuff too and from work computers and bringing software and firmware files with me to service calls. I also use them for booting live linux distros.

I coloured the "up" sides white with correction fluid and marked them with a black magic marker to identify which SD card is normally in each reader.

Much better than the slightly larger cheap Chinese card reader I bought.

Magic

5.0 out of 5 stars Really small. Really., February 7, 2012

I ordered this because I wanted to keep a microSD to USB adapter in the Compact Flash slot of my PDA. This is thin enough that it can fit inside the spacer that was provided in my iPAQ PDA. Now I can transfer files via USB from any computer to my PDA using the microSD card. Very convenient.

A tip: The plastic shell is very thin, and eventually breaks due to pressure from the clips inside a USB port. I pulled the metal sleeve off, and then poured a little Epoxy resin into the space between the circuit board and the plastic shell. Once the resin cured, it provided a hard backing that will make this item last much longer in regular use.
