It failed to read a standard SD card.
From the first time inserting a compact flash card, it always felt like a challange.
Finally after just a few uses the pins bent rendering the item useless.
It did fit in and installed with no problems but the quality is just not there.
Please don't buy this.
The product size is a little bulkier than I had expected, and bulkier than my other 'universal card readers' I've used before (maybe there's some very good engineering/design reason here that I just don't understand, not being an IT guy).
I'm not a 'power user' for flash memory cards. I mostly upload standard photo memory cards from my digital camera to my desktop iMac for editing, album-ing, emailing and all the usual recreational consumer uses.
This read some of my SD and SDHC cards normally without problems, but inexplicably could not read some other of the same type cards.
I thought at first the individual cards' data had become corrupted or damaged, but other devices 'read' the same cards to my desktop without difficulty, so the problem seems to be with the KingWin unit.
I assume it's a factory QC problem since it reads one card normally, then can't read the next card at all (these are quality name brand cards, not questionable generics/counterfeits/seconds off eBay).
I have to agree with other reviewers that there seems to be QC problems with this product. There are a lot of 'universal readers' out there to choose from, so at this time I can't recommend this one. I give it 3 Stars for now; it's not a 1, but it's not a 5.
I do have other KingWin products, and have reviewed several, and they've all been fine except for this Card Reader.
KingWin does offer several other different models of Card Reader, but I haven't tried those, so I can't offer any guidance there.
Thanks for reading, and I hope this honest review is helpful to you as you comparison shop online.

This unit specifically says it will read SM cards. It has a slot on the front that is wide enough for SM cards, and is labelled SM/XD. Read morePublished 9 days ago by Robert S.
Was very wary of this when I read the other reviews, but for $4.99 could not resist taking a chance on it. And am very happy I did! Read morePublished on March 14, 2013 by Aarennaar Krishnan
Something strange is going on with this product; SD cards must be inserted upside-down (metal tabs facing up) in order to be read; unfortunately the LED indicator light comes on... Read morePublished on February 3, 2013 by Tim
The SD card slot doesn't read the SD card... That's bad that this product can even do what it's made to do. It should be exterminated!Published on January 30, 2013 by Dalek Caan
