Whilst I did not purchase this item here, picked it up at a local computer store....it is junk.
It failed to read a standard SD card.
From the first time inserting a compact flash card, it always felt like a challange.
Finally after just a few uses the pins bent rendering the item useless.
It did fit in and installed with no problems but the quality is just not there.

I wish I could tell you about the quality of the item, I do. I wish I could complain about transfer speeds or bad drivers, but I can't. Just plugged this into my motherboard, turned on the computer, heard a pop, boom, dead. Smoke came out of the ports and everything. and this is AFTER I purchased a 5.25 to 3.5 Drive bay converter. How convenient.

This is a terrible item. It uses an all plastic casing and it doesn't even fit in the 3.5 drive cage. Did the manufacturer even measure or obtain any specifications before producing this? Oh, and by the way - IT DOESN'T WORK. The USB port does nothing. The card ports are actually detected from within Windows, but they do not read anything. Additionally, it caused the other USB ports on the computer to malfunction until it was unplugged from the motherboard header.

Please don't buy this.

Ok I have no idea what the other people in here are talking about, I did not purchase this on amazon, I picked it up in my local microcenter because I had some extra cash to blow and I wanted a card reader, This item fits perfectly in my 3.5" drive (was not hard to install at all) I plugged it in and after a few seconds Window's had the drivers downloaded for it, The USB 2.0 port is a bit of a squeeze to get anything plugged into but it works fine, I use my SD cards and my micro SD card adapter on it and it all works fine, I have not had time to test out any of the other products for I have no use for them (I only got it for the SD card slot and it works just fine) my suggestion is return your defective product and get a replacement this product does deserve at least 3 stars but I like it so im giving it 4 starts, not 5 because as i stated above the USB is a bit of a squeeze.

I was offered a free sample for testing and my impartial consumer review. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed with this Universal Card Reader. The concept seems great, and I like the versatility of the all-in-one.
The product size is a little bulkier than I had expected, and bulkier than my other 'universal card readers' I've used before (maybe there's some very good engineering/design reason here that I just don't understand, not being an IT guy).

I'm not a 'power user' for flash memory cards. I mostly upload standard photo memory cards from my digital camera to my desktop iMac for editing, album-ing, emailing and all the usual recreational consumer uses.
This read some of my SD and SDHC cards normally without problems, but inexplicably could not read some other of the same type cards.
I thought at first the individual cards' data had become corrupted or damaged, but other devices 'read' the same cards to my desktop without difficulty, so the problem seems to be with the KingWin unit.
I assume it's a factory QC problem since it reads one card normally, then can't read the next card at all (these are quality name brand cards, not questionable generics/counterfeits/seconds off eBay).

I have to agree with other reviewers that there seems to be QC problems with this product. There are a lot of 'universal readers' out there to choose from, so at this time I can't recommend this one. I give it 3 Stars for now; it's not a 1, but it's not a 5.

I do have other KingWin products, and have reviewed several, and they've all been fine except for this Card Reader.
KingWin does offer several other different models of Card Reader, but I haven't tried those, so I can't offer any guidance there.

Thanks for reading, and I hope this honest review is helpful to you as you comparison shop online.

Works well but the SD/MMC slot only works when you flip the SD card upside down (with copper connections on top). I see no way to remove the individual SD/MMC reader within the unit and turn it right-side-up. Besides that the reader works well.
