The main feature of this product is how easy it is to remove the hard drive. Great for swapping drives in your computer or doing mass transfers. Great for cloning massive amounts of disks because no screws are required to remove the drive. Dont be afraid the drive is in there securely. I would highly recommend this product. Just be aware the cord is pretty short.

This enclosure does have a USB 3.0 connection and cable. It is inexpensive and easy to use. No tool is required to install or uninstall a hard drive in there. It draws power from the USB cable. The only drawback I can see for now is that its plastic shell is no good for heat dissipation. I am cloning my 320GB disk to a 750GB one and have to leave the new drive in there for a long time. I have to keep the enclosure open or otherwise the drive can get too hot. They could have left some openings on the top and bottom to alleviate this problem. But given how cheap this thing is, I can easily buy a better one without regret.

I just got it today and I really like it! The housing is plastic and to open it you just squeeze the sides.
I like that it has a status light on it and needs no extra power, it's really easy to open and swap drives if need be. I have used a 250gb Seagate and a 500gb Seagate 2.5 drive in this and both were recognized right away! This also works for osx lion (mac) if your interested. I tried it and it worked fine.(However my macbook pro doesn't have a usb 3.0 port)

If your looking for something heavy duty maybe this isn't for you, I expect the housing to last for 2-3 years. You get what you pay for.

Recomendation: Do NOT touch it even with a 50 foot barge pole.

First let me describe how I used this box. I have an SSD which is an external hard disk for my laptop and contains all the data that I want to take on the road. So while the drive itself never comes out of the box, the box needs to be disconnected and reconnected frequently. I think this is reasonable use for a external HD enclosure.

I was attracted to it by the tool-less design part of the story. I bought it at Microcenter and within 2 weeks, the USB connector failed. I would not power up the device. It became progressively bad and for a while it worked if I held the connector. But finally it completely died. Since this was within 30 days, Microcenter honored the return. I felt that it deserved a second chance and got another one. But this one also died in 15 days with with exactly the same power problem.

While the tool-less concept is pretty cool, it is useless if the device does not work. Had they at least given a standard cable, I could have bought a new power cable and used it. But alas, they had to provide a non-standard cable.

This enclosure is working well with USB 2.0 ports. But not recognized in USB 3.0 ports. I tried with 500 GB, 1 TB - 2.5 inch HDD and SSHD in different machines. No support drivers in the Kingwin website.

I've purchased 4 of these hard drive enclosures over the past 2 years and I'm very happy with them. I use them all the time for testing hard drives and for storing and moving data between computers. I've used them with SSDs and regular hard drives with no issues. The tool-less design is very convenient and the case is durable.

I bought five of this, 1 for me and other 4 for my friends. It's the easiest way to get your old hard drive as an external one. Works perfectly, cheap and it's usb 3.0
