I disagree with the reviewer who stated that Texans would not find this book amusing. I am a Texan and I find This book to be absolutely fantastic, hilarious, and honest. Kinky is not disrespecting people from the lonestar state, just having a laugh. He is proud of Texas and this book shows that in addition to making fun of things we make fun of all the time! Texans, you need this book- you'll understand it perfectly. Non-Texans, you need it as well, I promise that you will laugh.

Kinky's "Guide..." is a bit of a twist for the author, speaking as someone who has read virtually everything he's ever written. I have to say, it's clever, features some very unusual pieces for the author, and as always, will have you laughing out every orafice.

As a devoted fan of Kinky Friedman, I've got all his books and even listened to some of his music. Of course I loved this book. It's full of the little gems that make you laugh out loud - and cause other people on the plane to look at you funny. What I noticed (because I've read all of his books several times) is that this book is like a "Greatest Hits" album, in that it is mainly composed of the good snippits from his books. That is not to say I didn't think it was great; I bought it for the same reason you buy "Best Of" albums when you've got all the songs already because you own all of the band's albums: all the good stuff is in one place! Keep 'em coming, Kinkster!

Kinky is at his irreverent best here in a scrap book style book that generally talks about Texas, but wanders onto other topics without any particular reason. If you can't laugh at this book you can't laugh at all.

This is a collection of Kinky's humor pieces, essays and profiles that could conceivably be called journalism, written for various magazines over the last decade. Some are terrific, some are just so-so, and rather unforgivably, some are stolen directly from those unattributed emails that get passed around the net. If you've had an email account for at least six weeks, you'll recognize the ones I mean. And frankly, that's just tacky. But if you're looking for something light to read at the airport, you could do worse.

Even though I'm not from Texas I found this book to be both funny and informative. Once again Kinky has penned yet another satirical classic that everyone should enjoy. Not a "who-done-it" but a hilarious look into The Lonestar State and what makes it great!

James Joyce writes about Dublin like Friedman writes about Texas.I suspect the Dubliners could no more understand Kinky than could Texans understand James nor do I expect either would want to.This book is a collection of stuff that, though not too deep, is very enjoyable.
How's this for some simple philosophy that can be applied to anywhere..

Kinky is the BOMB and so hilarious and unique!!! Love the book, the man and the great State of Texas! Also Kinky keep up the good work for the animals at Utopia Ranch!!!

Quick read replete with irreverant Texas philosophy. I highly recommend it for those with a twisted sense of humor!
