There are cheap amps that produce a loud and clean output at a bargain price, and there are cheap amps that are just cheap. The Kinter falls into the latter category. Yes, I know it's absurdly inexpensive, and I shouldn't expect audiophile sound quality, but I recommend taking a pass on this one. I have a couple of the cheap-o Lepai amps and where those produce a largely distortion-free sound at an impressive volume with even a decent soundstage, the Kinter pathetically limps along with a noticeable hiss in the background at low volumes. As you increase the volume, the distortion comes on quickly and heavily, which means it's probably going to do a number on your speakers.

Maybe folks know this thing doesn't ship with a power supply, but it caught me by surprise when the Kinter showed up with no cord. Since it calls for a non-standard 5-amp supply, plan on hunting around for one and shelling out more money.

Also, as another reviewer noted, the LED cycles through various colors. I disassembled the amp, and you can't pick a solid color, although you could snip the LED or bend it out of the way to dim it, if you were so inclined. The color-changing "feature" is an irritant, in my book.

In case you're wondering why I bought the Kinter instead of another Lepai, I wanted the USB plug to power a wireless input I bought. The USB port (power output only) works, but the rest of the amp is altogether underwhelming.

The Kinter (Handover HiFi Stereo) MA-180H Amplifier is a compact two integrated circuit based stereo amplifier in an extruded red aluminum case (1.65"x2.85"x5.2" [6.1" with mounting flange]), with dull silver front and rear panels secured to the case by 8 screws. An additional screw and nut secures the case to the heat sink of the power output IC to the right side of the case. The front panel is secured to the electronics by four hex nuts and washers. The rear panel is secured to the electronics with four screws with integral washers. The case has a mounting flange to secure the unit to a mobile device. No rubber feet are supplied. The front panel has four chrome plastic knobs (Bass, Treble, Balance, Volume) and a chrome plastic push button on/off switch. The rear panel has a MP3 input, two RCA inputs for left and right channel input, four connections for speaker (wire push in spring loaded), a USB charger, and an input for 12Vdc 5A.
The model I ordered came with a high quality 12 Volt 4 Amp Zitrades power supply. The amplifier arrived promptly in shrink wrap and packaged in a Kinter box indicating that it had not been previously used. The amplifier and power supply were packaged in a sealed and labeled Amazon stocking envelope. Both devices were operational at arrival.
I cleaned the solder flux residue and other contamination from the PWB before making any measurements. Otherwise soldering workmanship was excellent, with evidence of hand soldering of those components (with flux residue) which could not be wave soldered.
All of the amplifier components are on one PWB which slides into the case. The PWB has a solder mask on the circuit side where the through-hole components are soldered.

I bought mine, not knowing what I would do with it but I like to play around with speakers and amplifiers and this is very cheap so I figured I might as well get it and play with it. I like this amplifier a lot, for several reasons (not in any order): low cost, GREAT sound quality, the clam style terminals for the speakers make it easy to connect and disconnect speakers, the left/right control knob, the bass/treble controls, the lighted ring around the volume knob making it easy to find in the dark, the 2 choices of input (RCA/3.5mm), the ultra high efficiency (it doesn't take a lot of power in for what it puts out), and the USB port is an added bonus. The best use of this is with bookshelf speakers, it has a relatively low power output so if you want to feel your bass this is not for you. I am currently using this with my Panasonic Thrusters, they are 8 ohms each and take a RMS of 15W, and this amplifier puts out about 20W RMS into 4 ohms, but that is all you need with a speaker that is efficient and for use in a living room or other application. I haven't tried this in a car, but I believe that you would be rather disappointed with the volume due to the low output and the high noise level during driving. The only thing that I can complain about is that the LED on the front flashes every color you could imagine, I would prefer something such as a steady blue to go with the case but it is not that big of a deal.

This amp uses a bridged TDA7377 and a noisy AX358 op amp. Changes/mod made: replaced R7 and R8 with 4.7Kohms,
C5 and C13 with 100pF ceramic caps, replaced AX358 with 4558 and the annoying tri-color led to a cool blue led.
The mod made not necessary if you are using the amp in a noisy environment.

For the cost this is a pretty great amp. It's capable of about 4 watts per channel without distortion. I think it's a good match for a high sensitivity 8 ohm driver. It will be very efficient.

I took mine out of the case and it's very compact. The amp chip is an unknown design, but it's about half the size of the tripath TA2020, I assume it's about half the power. So for half the price you are getting half the power. It's a good deal for $10. Also, without the heatsink/case it works fine, starts to cutoff a bit when you drive it too hard because of the heat. But at below 5 watts/channel (the distortion free zone) it runs just fine.

The usb plug is worthless and creates electrical interference. The tone adjusters are a pleasant surprise on an amp this cheap. They work great. They color changing led is silly, I guess they had an over supply at the factory. When the amp has inadequate voltage it will cutout. When you short it, it will turn off immediately. The protection circuit works.

My recommendation: Set the volume knob to 50%, then adjust bass to 80%, set treble according to your speakers. This will give you optimal performance from this amp.

Enjoy listening to hifi stereo sound at 5 watts per channel!
