I bought it because of the low price & was surprised to find it works just as well as more expensive Fluke thermometers I've used in the past. It works quickly, has a good distance to spot ratio and it's priced just right. I've used it for everything from spot temp checks of computer equipment to checking my freezer & my ceiling insulation coverage. I would buy the same one again if it were lost or broken.

Simple to use, no set up required.
Product does NOT have adjustable emissitivity which means it can read higher or lower than the real surface temperature depending on the reflective consistency of the surface being measured. This product is fine for a quick ball park temperature reading and is great to use to scan across a surface to find any temperature deviation like a wall area.

Quick Temperature Reading,

This review is from: Kintrex IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great product and definitely lives up to its product description. The unit has a solid feel and I don't have the impression that it is a low quality product. Temperature readings are quick and accurate as far as I can tell. It provides many uses such as confirming the temperature of foods to finding heat sources in your home. It has helped me pinpoint the areas in my house that I am losing precious air-conditioning.
My biggest problem with the thermometer is the laser, the infrared temperature reads from a much larger area than the laser points to and until you get used to the unit you may be confused by the temperature reading for areas at a distance of 4 feet or more away. But all in all a great product.

Thermometer accuracy and emissivity,

This review is from: Kintrex IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting (Tools & Home Improvement)
Most people don't seem to realize that the accuracy of this thermometer (all infrared temperature sensors) is very dependent on a property of every material called "emissivity". In general, you will get a more accurate reading when the material has a high emissivity. Materials with low emissivity will reflect infrared light. If the material has a *very* low emissivity, such as with aluminum foil, then the device will be reading the temperature of the objects that are in the foil's reflection - such as the kitchen, the oven interior surface, and even yourself. Luckily, most of the surfaces associated with foods being cooked have a high emissivity (water, flesh, oil, plant matter, etc), so the device will be fairly accurate with those. But there's another thing to consider for cooking applications - this device still is only measuring the surface temperature. With foods like meats, you are still going to want to use a temperature probe so that you can measure the inside temperature.
This device should work well with measuring temperature of candy, melted soap, oils, foods cooked at relatively low temperature such as breads, or food that you are re-heating. It should also work very well for examining doughs. It should also work well on most non-metallic painted surfaces. It should work *somewhat* on windows, as they have a fairly high emissivity, and low transmittance to infrared (that is, infrared light does not pass through them even though visible light does). Do *not* use it on any unpainted metals.

Kintrex IRT0421 Infrared Thermometer,
This review is from: Kintrex IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting (Tools & Home Improvement)
After reading specifications and reviews of similar products in the same general price range. I decided on the Kintrex IRT0421.
I am very pleased with my purchase. This device is very quick to respond and it seems to be quite accurate when used properly. One of the main reasons I chose this infrared thermometer over the Fluke, Raytek or Sears Craftsman was that it uses 2 AAA batteries rather than a 9-volt battery. I've had the Kintrex for about a month now and I'm still using the original batteries which show no signs of weakness yet. The display is very easy to read even in a dark room (it's backlighted) and you can switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius simply by pressing a button. As far as I'm concerned, you can't beat the Kintrex for the price.

This is the ideal infrared thermometer for the average home owner. It's easy to use and gives you just the features you need without costing more. The one complaint that people seem to have for it is that it does not come with a wrist strap even though it looks like the unit was designed to have one. I found the the wrist strap from one of my old film cameras, that I don't use any more, fits it perfectly.
There is a feature that this unit has that is not mention in the user manual. That feature is the units ability to store the last temperature reading taken after the unit turns itself off. The way you get at this last reading is to push the mode key instead of the measure key. The last temperature reading will appear.

This is one very handy tool at a nice price.
First, the display is backlit and very readable inside, but just a bit faint outside in bright daylight. It fits the palm of the hand better than other devices belonging to friends I've tried, and provides sturdy, dependable, and accurate information indoors. I bought mine to check for temperature leaks for recaulking and insulating my house, but I am astounded to how useful it is indoors. First, in the kitchen, check that oven temperature or the outside of the loaf of bread you are baking. I bought mine for that, although remember what other writers have said about how large an area you may be measuring relative to the laser pointer. In your home entertainment cabinet, check the air temperature around your receiver and other gear -- you may find out that it's getting warmer than you want -- and you'll see the consequences of leaving that power on. Same with your PCs -- check the output temp of the fans on your laptop. If you want to know if your A/C is working properly, a quick shot up to the output baffle will confirm the temp of the cold air coming out there -- no more getting a ladder or stool to hold your hand up to it and guess. Check food temperature in the kitchen, including your freezer or fridg, and make sure you and your family are safe. I am sure there are dozens, if not hundreds of uses for this gadget around your home, workshop, office, and kitchen.

This is a product which preforms as claimed (something a bit unusual these days). I have found it useful for ensuring true temp for my griddle, gas grill, refrigerator, freezer, and pizza stone in the oven. As time passes I find myself using it for more tasks and some not even cooking related!
I certainly recommend this product!

less bells'N'whistles equals more bang for your buck-MUST HAVE for REPTILES,

This review is from: Kintrex IRT0421 Non-Contact Infrared Thermometer with Laser Targeting (Tools & Home Improvement)
Although it doesnt carry the Brand Name of Fluke, it carries half the price of fluke's cheapest model. 5 years ago in the HVAC world, Kintrex was considered cheap and unreliable. They have come a LONG way. It is accurate, self explanatory use really-very simple to use, and it turns itself off in 10 seconds saving your battery. Most guns under $50 are hit or miss, and dont have the lazer ratio of 12"-1", meaning if the gun is 12 inches away from the target the lazer hits, it gives the temp. of 1 square inche of space. PERFECT for REPTILE use, a must have. Its not the best, and has no calibration features(if it comes innacurate, you will have to return), so for more commercial needs you may want a stronger model. 5***** for ease of use, price,& build

Have had this for a couple of weeks and it works as described, the quality of housing is very good = not cheap thin material like a lot of products manufactured today, which is important to me as I am hard on my tools.
Design is also very good fits in your hand with out being cumbersome. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a laser thermometer.. |
