great generator, quiet and reliable,

This review is from: Kipor IG3000 3000-Watt Generator Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
Okay, this is a pure sine wave generator. I use mine in Uganda, where we have power outages about every other day. I have the 240 v, 50 hz version. It's sooo quiet, not a nuisance at all, neither to me, nor the neighbors (who are only annoyed by the "envy" factor). Starts in 2 seconds with the electric start. Has a pull start as well, in case your battery goes dead. My battery needed replacing after 2 years; it will take quite a few different small batteries. I keep my Kipor outside, and it's good in bad weather. I use it for my home and for my power tools. It will handle any tool that pulls l5 amps at 120 v or less, but I have to cut out my fridge to make that happen. Other than that, it's good for the whole house, so long as I turn the water heater and electric stove off. Very energy efficient in the low power mode, and switches automatically to high power when the load increases.
Don't think of "pure sine wave" as a useless luxury. It's useful. You can't run your microwave without one. I had 3 fans burn out over a series of a couple of months when I was using an inverter that did not produce a pure sine wave. Almost everything runs a bit smoother on pure sine wave, and some things won't run at all. It's a great buy. The low oil cut-off works (as I have discoved on 3 occasions). Just keeps on purring, month after month. I keep it outside and it resists the rainy tropical weather just fine. Mine just hit the two-year mark. Power has been on and off 5 times this week, and I'm once again glad to not give it a second thought. I notice that Kipor has some upgraded versions now; based on my experience, I would recommend both this generator and the Kipor name in general. UPDATE: June 2010 Three more years of service, still running. Had a repair or two, nothing major that couldn't be fixed without any special Kipor parts. That's 5 years now, and though power outages are less frequent, it's still quiet and powerful. 'Nuff said.

About 4 years ago I bought the Kipor 3000TI. I had never heard of their product before, and did the best amount of research I could on the company. Turns out, they have been very big overseas for many years, and had just been brought to the US market. The original 3000 I bought was slightly different than the model here. Mine did not come with wheels and is shaped slightly differently. In my opinion, Honda makes the best products from vehicles, garden equipment (lawnmowers and weedwackers...etc.) jets, and many others. I contacted a Kipor retailer directly and quizzed him on the quality and history of Kipor products and he agreed Honda has an elite product, but Kipor has a top quality name overseas and he stood behind the product. I picked up the generator for $900. Free shipping. The only slight issue I have is I have to pull the chord 5-10 times to start it where a Honda doesn't take more than 2 pulls. The Kipor is extremely quiet. I use it to power a cabin and use it as a backup power supply for my home. (I'm looking outside at 4+ feet of snow and I'm not worried in the least bit.) My neighbor fires up his 10,000 watt diesel and you can feel the mountain shake and it sounds like a freight train. These Kipors are so quiet. They have some type of a small muffler system on them and my vacuum is louder. The ability to adjust the power setting depending on output (Smart Throttle) and usage saves so much gas! I believe mine has about a 3-4 gallon gas tank and will run on the lowest setting for around 10 hours. As they become more popular in the States, it seems their technology is changing and there are more options as to what you can do with them. (Daisy chain 2 together to double the output.) Since I bought mine, they have increased by $400. I would still buy another without any hesitation! Do your research before buying any product.

What else can I say that hasn't been said in the other reviews here. This generator's quality, craftmanship, performance is A-1 excellent. Ours is 2 1/2 years old, I've changed the oil to synthetic and it runs just like the 1st day we got it. We use it on our T@B trailer that has a 10,000 btu A/C, which it runs easily. Quiet is an understatement on this unit. I believe it is rated at 64db. Walk 30 feet away from a campsite, you have to stop and listen intently to hear it. It performs just like the Honda EU3000, at a much lower inital cost. At 132 lbs, it's not "light", but I can pick it up and load it into my Ford Ranger 4X4 myself. Excellent purchase, would buy any of Kipor's products if they are all of this quality.

RECIVED ITEM PROMPTLY,SLIGHT DAMAGE TO BOX, HOWEVER THE INSIDE PACKAGEING IS EXCELANT,AFTER MINOR ASSEMBLY,I ADDED THE 20 oz. OIL, GAS AND IT STARTED IMMEDIATELY IT PURRS AT IDLE,AT FULL SPEED IT IS ONLY SLIGHTLY LOUDER, I GOT THIS TO OPERATE MY A/C ON MY CAMP TRAILER,THE INSTRUCTIONS CALL FOR FULL SPEED TO OPERATE AN A/C BUT THIS GENERAT0R WORKED IT EFFORTLESSLY ON IDLE. IT IS A VERY HIGH QUALITY UNIT,THE SIZE IS COMPACT ENOUGH, I WOULD SAY THE ONLY CONCERN YOU MIGHT HAVE IS THE WEIGHT. IT IS A LITTLE HEAVY FOR ONE PERSON TO LIFT, BUT TWO PEOPLE CAN EASLY LOAD IT INTO THE BACK OF A PKUP. ON THE GROUND ON A SMOOTH SERFACE IE; CONCRETE-ASPHALT-ECT IT MOVES EASYLY ENOUGH A CHILD CAN ROLL IT ALONG THIS IS IDENTICAL IN QUALITY TO SIMMILAR UNITS THAT COST TWICE AS MUCH YOU WILL NOT BE DISSIPONTED.ALSO ORDER THE COVER,IT IS EXCELLANT AND DIRT CHEAP FOR THE PROTECTION IT PROVIDES.

Mine's 3 years old.
Has electric start and starts right up. We use it to power our travel trailer in rustic areas where we are usually surrounded by tent campers, (the camp sites are spread out). If you walk away from our camp site you cannot hear it. We have often had people remark they didn't know we had a generator until they saw the lights on. I leave it on low idle and the thing only idles up when we use the microwave. We rarely run the AC, 13,500 BTU, but it runs it no problem. It's best to turn the "eco-idle" off before turning the AC on, as it struggles to start if the generator is set on low idle. An electric heater will idle it up. I love the dependabilty. I can enjoy my comforts and still respect the wishes of others to enjoy the QUIET. My brother-in-law has the Honda and they are very similar, though the Honda can get a remote start. And thieves target red and blue generators. I have known of these things to fetch close to full price when sold used so you've got nothing to lose!

This generator is worth the money. The savings alone on average of $700 and noise level difference between this and Hondas newer 3000 generator makes this a bargin if your an avid camper.. Only drawback is it didn't come with a manual/instructions. I had to go to Kipor web site to download it.

My experience with Kipor genreators has been excellent. The ig3000 is my second Kipor afer a Camp Mate 2600. Both have been outstanding and, in my experience, quieter than the comparable Honda. The Camp Mate was replaced only because we bought a larger travel trailer and needed more power and I had a few discs in my back fused, so the electric start on the ig3000 is a blessing. It starts easily and runs smooth. It runs my 31' Holiday Rambler without any hicups. I run the A/C, lights and microwave at the same time. The only reason I would give mine up is if my next trailer has a built in generator. For me, I don't understand the comments about it not running smaller trailers than I have or that the model isn't a quality. It has been perfect for my use.
