Generator review, April 19, 2009
This review is from: Kipor IG3000E 3000-Watt Generator Open Frame Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
The generator arrived undamaged, but with a few issues. I hooked up the battery and added oil and fuel to the engine, but the owner's manual did not really explain what position the fuel shut off valve should be located in to be turned on. I had to disconnect the hose in order to discover this (by the way, down is on). I then pulled the choke and turned the key - nothing happened. The battery would not operate the starter (probably from being stored for a long period of time). I was able to start it by hand after quite a few pulls and it seemed to run fine. I shut it off after a couple of minutes so that I could get a meter to check voltage outputs from the 12 volt and 120 volt plugs. When I returned, I pulled the cord hundreds of times and could not get it to restart. After it cooled off for a while, I was able to get it to restart, but after shutting it down again it would not restart again. I finally gave up and put it on a battery charger overnight. With the battery up to voltage, it seems to start up just fine, but I do not trust it to start without the starter at this time. I am not sure if it gets better with when it gets broken in, but I expected easier manual starting than this is giving. For what it is worth it works fine once it is started.

Quiet compact generator, August 31, 2009
This review is from: Kipor IG3000E 3000-Watt Generator Open Frame Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
This generator is great, although expensive. Battery was dead when i received it (probably sat for 18 mos). After the initial break in (20 mins first oil change, then an hour on next oil change) the genset would start under its own battery power. This thing is a champ and runs the 13000 btu RV AC just fine (as long as you have smart throttle off). Its very quiet and isn't disruptive to other campers (compared to traditional gensets). I'de recommend it to anyone!

Kipor IG3000E Generator, August 20, 2010
This review is from: Kipor IG3000E 3000-Watt Generator Open Frame Inverter (Lawn & Patio)
When taken out of the box I immediately noticed that one of the rubber mounts (dampener) was broken. Also a hose from the valve cover to the breather was cut almost in two.
I then found that the battery was 'dead' to the extent that my charger would not even recognize it existed.
I called Amazon and found that I was SOL with them since it was not a returnable item. I called Coast distribution and asked them to send me the parts so I could make the repairs and they would not do so. They gave me the name of an authorized warranty repair place 25 miles away and told me I had to take it there.
I delivered it yesterday and they were very helpful, but they will have to order the parts and hopefully at some time in the future I will have to go pick it up.
On a brighter note, before I took it to the shop I tried it out to make sure it would run/work. Of course I had to start it with the pull rope (dead battery), but it did start easily and ran good. I hooked it to my fifth wheel trailer and it ran the air conditioner fine. The noise level was a little higher than I expected, but not too bad. I ran it for about 2.5 hours and it did fine.
I have hope that when/if the repairs are successfully completed that it will serve my needs.
