Since I would actually like my vacuum back we call the service center that it was sent to.

Heavy duty construction, lots of metal where all other vacuums are plastic - Nice light on the front Cons: -Very difficult to maneuver around furniture!

I do think that there is a good chance that we have purchased the last vacuum cleaner that we will ever have to purchase.

This was one of the best investments I have ever made. I clean houses for a living and often use the home owners vacuum. I have used dyson, electrolux, kenmore, oreck, hoover, central vacs, dirt devil, simplicity, a couple commercial or industrial uprights, and probably others. Of all of them, kirby would be my first choice.
Kirby pros: Very good suction.....the BEST suction, I cant say enough about the suction! Also, very well built, solid construction. I knew the abuse a kirby could take, so I made little effort to be careful. I have sucked up things that should never be sucked up, run it over very rough surfaces(a stone patio), dropped it(it fell out of the back of my van), spilled bleach on it, and basically asked it to do things only a rugged shop vac would be asked to do. I have owned my kirby for 12 years and have spent less than 70$ in repairs. This includes a replacement brush roll! Also a pro is the versatility. I have used the sprayer attachment to wash walls, and patio cushions. I have reversed the air flow to blow leaves off my patio and clean out my garage, blow off computer keyboards and other electronics and blow up air mattresses and balloons. And anyone who has vacuumed a lot of hard floors, knows the benefit of a long hose attachment.
Cons: It is quite heavy to carry, and changing attachments is slightly inconvenient.

I would not recommend this vacuum to an elderly person, and it would be overkill for someone who has a very clean house with no pets or children.

Second choice for a less expensive more practical vacuum would be a kenmore canister, although i have used a dozen different older and newer models and the newer ones seem to be riddled with problems.

I am writing this because I feel that there is a bad rep about this product and it is misleading. Here are some facts that you should be aware of:
1.They mislead my wife to believe we were getting a free carpet cleaning on two rooms at no charge (over phone) and that they would be at my house at 5pm to do it.
Now my wife is not someone who will fall for sale tactics as we got wound into a home security system that way (although I am happy with it now) and told me that the lady on the phone said nothing about a vacuum just that we had to sit through the speal while they cleaned the carpets.
2. The demo literally took 4.5 hours total!
yes we did get the guy to clean the carpets but it took a while to get to that point and it also takes so long cuz they use the sample pads and the sample attachment (uses 1/3 power they claim). NOW I used to be in retail and I understand the idea of a demo and that you want to paint the big picture etc. but it was ridiculous how long he stayed there.
3. HERE IS WHERE YOU WANT TO PAY ATTENTION: the performance of the kirby in my home was unbelievable (in a good way) purely a 10/10.
My wife was automatically sold (as was I) in what it could pick up in terms of dirt. I have done extensive research on the kirby models Sentrina 1 and 2 (2 being the 2013 model and lighter wieght and more suction power) and it beats EVERY VACUUM out there (even the dyson animal complete $650 pink one we were thinking about buying...which I was shocked at how much it beat it by).
4. The weight of the kirby is HEAVY. almost 20-25 lbs in fact.
so if you have trouble with lifting heavy things then i would say get a dyson for the stairs, basement, or anything that you need to lift the vacuum for.

So I'll start by telling you I was fooled into letting the Kirby salesman in with the promise of a free carpet shampoo. I would have run them off if I knew what was really about to happen. After I realized what was going on, I told the salesman he had 15 min to give his pitch and get out......and I gave him 5 minute updates as the clock counted down. It took him about 20 min, without showing me the shampooing option(he ran out of time). Next the haggeling started......the price started at $2750 but he could do $2500 cash. My counter offer was " I believe this vacuum is twice the vacuum my Dyson is. I paid $400 for it. So that makes your Kirby vacuum worth $800 to me." The price slowly came down, but I never budged from my offer. They finally agreed to sell it to me for that price, but then they wanted me to trade in my old vac and/or some other items around the house. I refused to give them anything, so the salseman wrote up my bill for $800 plus tax. I put my check book away and told him to get out. With a stunned look on his face he asked why. I told him we agreed on $800, not $800 plus tax. So he rewrote the bill of sale for $800 even.

Here is my opinion on the Kirby vac. It is the greatest vacuum I have ever owned. It really does pull the dirt out of the carpets and my house has never been cleaner. As a vacuum cleaner I give it 10 out of 10 all day long. But......the attachments are basiclly worthless because of the level of difficulty it takes to swap the vaccum over to use them. If you have a large job for the attachments then it makes it worth while to do so, but to bounce back and forth as you move through the house is very painful. The other thing that people may dislike is how heavy it is. If you are older or have a bad back DO NOT pick this machine up. IT IS HEAVY!!!!
