5.0 out of 5 stars Death Wail of the NES, November 23, 2005

This review is from: Kirby's Adventure (Video Game)

Yes, children, there used to be an 8 bit system called the NES. By the time Kirby was released on it, the SNES had taken over, with its superior graphics and sound.

But Kirby is a labour of love. Rather than make some piece of trash as the last great NES game, the makers polished it and polished it until you can almost see your face in it. The graphics stretch the 8 bit format to its absolute limit. This is the aesthetic equivalent of painting the Lord's Prayer on a grain of rice - the beauty is that of working WITHIN the limitations. Kirby himself is a beautiful vibrant pink, the worlds he passes through are delicious lime greens, ice blues, chocolate browns - the rich colours do not attempt to emulate 16 bit, but instead try to make 8 bit as beautiful as possible

Likewise the sound. Kirby makes the cutest "ooh" and squeaking noises; the music is well-composed and works wonderfully within the confines of an 8 bit synthesiser.

The gameplay is also polished, with an intuitive beauty to the controls. It's a finger dance to play this game - an experience of control and aesthetics that few games can match.

Farewell, little NES! Maybe you will be reincarnated in a future century...

4.0 out of 5 stars A classic!, May 17, 2001
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Kirby's Adventure (Video Game)
This is one of Kirby's first games, and it's really not that bad, considering the amount of games it has to compare itself with. I mean, this is NES, but as NES games go, this is definitely one of the best! If you manage to beat the game and defeat the final boss, you still have to find all the secrets, and the you have to beat the game over with half as many power pieces AND get all the secrets again. I admit, the levels aren't all extremely challenging but that was never the point of a Kirby game, from what I can tell. It's still fun to see Kirby doing what he does best, even back then - grabbing up powers and slapping enemies silly!

5.0 out of 5 stars My favorite NES game., July 31, 2001

Awesome game. 2D platformers just don't get any better than this. Kirby has the appearance of a cute little cream puff, but don't let it fool you: this guy's easily got more moves than Lara Croft. Kirby can absorb powers from enemies (or simply EAT them), slide, dive, fly, dash, and all sorts of other things. He can get everything from a sword to a laser, become a living tornado, and even drive his own UFO. The graphics are very colorful and vibrant, especially for an NES title, and the music is nice and upbeat and happy, just like the whole tone of this game. It looks a lot like a kids' game, but believe, anyone can have a lot of fun with this. It's even got secret modes to unlock by beating the game at 100%. There is really nothing bad that I can mention about this title. It's simply a must-have for any NES owner who likes platform games.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must...play...Kirby..., September 3, 2003
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Kirby's Adventure (Video Game)
This game has revolutionized the platform game concept. It has taken the concept of pink vacuum cleaners and put it in with the Mario innovation (excuse my fancy lecture). Kirby is a mean, lean eating machine who can take the power of an enemy and make it his own by sucking it up. This is way cool but can make the game very easy at times. And, if you don't like your power, just let it go in one end and out the *other* end with the SELECT button. This game is fairly long and can be very frustrating at times (I've learned to just SUCK it up! Get it? Kirby SUCKS things up!) You can also fly by sucking in air and if you meet an enemy, just decompress it and you'll really BLOW him away! The final bossES (notice I emphasize ES) are extremely hard, too. All in all, this is a must have and is pretty darn good for an early 90s NES game.

5.0 out of 5 stars BETTER THAN MARIO, July 2, 2001
This review is from: Kirby's Adventure (Video Game)
I think part of the reason why people like Zelda and Mario is because they were simply the first games of their type. I believe that if they had come later, they wouldn't have done so well. Having said that, I think that Kirby's Adventure is FAR superior to Mario. For one, there's NO TIME LIMIT! The graphics were nice and bright and clear, unlike some NES titles. Even the music was pretty good. I liked the exciting new twists that this game had. Kirby can fly, pick up TONS of weapons, each one clearly different from the last. Picking power-ups was never so much fun. Each of the many worlds was different from the last, insuring that there was little or no redundancy. Furthermore, there was a percentage meter that told you how much of the game you had completed. You could beat it without a score of 100%, but you'd be missing out on the secret areas. But my favorite thing about this game are the battles. This game boasts some of the most fun ending-bosses I've seen--even compared to SNES, Playstation, etc. For example, there is this swashbuckling battle about midway where Kirby takes up the sword and dukes it out with an evil villian. Then there's the last battle, where Kirby flies through the air, fighting some heavenly entity--a moon or star, I think. Yes, this is definitely one of the better games I've played.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kirby's Adventure is awesome, September 28, 2011

This review is being done by my 7 and a 1/2 year old step-son.

Kirby's Adventure is one of the best graphic games I know. Because, look at the graphics! They are in your face. World 6 is really good. It is really hard. It is really cool that you can suck up people and steal their powers. You actually eat them at the same time.
If you want to start a new data file just delete all the save files.
The bosses are really good. Some can jump, some can turn in to fire balls, some can even throw stuff at you.
Some guys you can't steal their powers cause when you do it nothing will happen.

I would recommend it to anybody who is in to video games!

5.0 out of 5 stars KIRBY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, August 2, 2011

I'm not that much into video games, but I do like them once in a while. I came across a video on the internet of this NES Kirby game, and knew right away I had to buy it. I hadn't played my NES in a while, but this game worked without problems. It's cute (of course), looks amazing for the NES (the colors are very vibrant and the graphics look great), and the music makes it worth playing too! If you have any doubts about purchasing this game, just take a look at some videos online...It's a stunning 8-bit game. It is kinda easy, but that is to be expected from a Kirby game. However, it is fun to play your favorite levels over and over again without having to start the game over every time. There are some challanges too, but you'll just have to play the game to find out what they are!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceeds my expectations, October 26, 2010

Meets above and beyond my gaming standards. The game loads EVERY time I put it in and turn it on and even works when I pick up the system and move it (compared to most NES games and another Kirby's Adventure game I used to have). Needed a little cleaning to remove the musty feeling, and to remove dust and some gunk inside where the game is read. Perfect addition to my collection.

This game is fairly challenging. It is still a lot of fun though. I really enjoyed getting to play this as I have been a fan of the Kirby video games that have come out when I was a kid on the gameboy, gameboy color, and N64. It's a great buy for any classic Nintendo fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars The first and the STANDARD that all Kirby games should be compared, July 2, 2010
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Kirby's Adventure (Video Game)
This game has all of what makes a game great it's fun to play, innovative and reasonable in length now you won't be pulling teeth to beat this game. That is not likely I mean maybe but it's not also silly easy I think Super Star Ultra for SNES was that way. Simply put a great game but sort of easy, however for NES library you need a few.
