4.0 out of 5 stars Kirkland for hair growth
Im 23 and started losing my hair a few years ago in the front. I have a really bad receding hairline so I shopped around and found kirklands extra strength minoxodil. Its not intended for frontal baldness but I used it anyway and in 2 months I have natural colered hairs where they should be! My natural hairline is full of small hairs. They are small and are just now...

2.0 out of 5 stars Itch from Hell
This product causes my scalp itch to a degree that I never knew was humanly possible. Literally it's like the itch demon fairy princess from hell came and was digging into your scalp with an "itch-wand" that has needles at its ends dabbed with poison. I kid you not. This doesn't occur right when I put it on, but I'll get itch attacks during the day. And when these attacks...

Its not intended for frontal baldness but I used it anyway and in 2 months I have natural colered hairs where they should be! My natural hairline is full of small hairs. They are small and are just now starting to really grow but they are there. I bought a 4 month supply for the cost of a 1 or 2 month supply of rogaine so Im ready to see what happens in the next 2 months. I wouldnt fool with the regular strength when the extra strength works so well. One of the reasons it works so well for me is because im young and everyone is different but I would definetley recommend this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars My Hair Truth - Updated!, July 4, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kirkland Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength Hair Regrowth for Men, 6 Month Supply (Health and Beauty)
First thing to do: Change your shower filter every six months. Get rid of chlorine and chemicals that cause hair to fall out faster!

Did it work for me? Yes, so far? Will it work for you? I have no idea, but this 6-month supply will give you your answer at a bargain price.

I asked my doctor and he said that yes, indeed, Minoxidil (generic Rogaine) will grow back hair on some people. Seeing this bargain price and noting that this item takes time to work, I couldn't pass it up. It comes in (6) 2 oz. bottles, each with a dropper. You slowly drip one ml of fluid on your scalp or the Vertex, which is the top back section of your head. Do this once in the morning and once in the evening noting that it takes 2-4 hours to dry. What? Yes, it's mildly sticky, like fresh hairspray. I use one finger to dab it around my scalp. I even tried placing a little in the front above my temples where I am receding. I found I have to carefully comb out my hair and it looks like it might be slightly wet. It maintains its stickiness for a few hours. I didn't care for that part of it.

UPDATE: At exactly three months now, I can see ¼" to ½" hairs growing on my Vertex (nothing in front, as Kirkland readily says). My hair came in as it is; thin shafts of silvery grey. It is nothing dramatic at all. But there is defintely no hair loss as well. I'll continue to use this for 6 months and see how much growth I can achieve. Kirkland does say that if not used, your hair recession will begin again after three months. For the price, it's worth it considering that Men's Rogaine Foam-Rogaine Hair Regrowth Treatment, 6/2.11 oz. cans (6 Month Supply) costs twice as much for six months. I'd be wiser to go to the gym more often. Also, someone mentioned that it is poisonous to pets and my cat likes to sneak up on my work chair and lick my hair. I'd still recommend trying it and reading all the reviews you can find.

UPDATE: It has now been six months of regular daily use of Minoxidil. I suspect I have reached my threshold. I am no longer losing my hair, that is clear. However, I do not see any new growth since around three to four months. The circular pattern that predates the male pattern baldness on my vortex has disappeared and the 'ring-like' appearance has diffused into the rest of my hair. No doubt this is a big improvement over six months ago. There is also no new growth in the front near my temples as is stated on the product. However, I continued to use up the 6-month supply and made my final decision. I still think for the price and the results, this product is worth it.

2.0 out of 5 stars Itch from Hell, March 6, 2011
This review is from: Kirkland Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength Hair Regrowth for Men, 6 Month Supply (Health and Beauty)
And when these attacks occur, dare you even touch one follicle of hair in the area where the Rogaine was applied, the painful scratchy sensation increases a thousand fold. In other words, it itches like crazy, but if you try to scratch it, you will see the gates of Hell looming before you, as it punishes you for even attempting to try to relieve some pressure off your head.

Will I keep using it? I don't know... I can honestly say my mental ability to stay laser focused has increased n-th fold as I am getting my daily practice during these itch-attacks. My hair in the front looks pretty good, but it in the back, not so much. . . Until I get a wife, I think I will keep using it, and then shock her as soon as I drop the Minoxidil after we get married. She'll be stuck to me anyhow. . . .

Daily application(s) for 4 months now: receding hairline (early 50's) stopped and mildly reversed. New hairs increasing over time. Also, daily use of saw palmetto supplements. Application becomes a routine eventually. Inexpensive and safe product that works with a large number of users. Easy to recommend a 3 month trial.

Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength Hair Regrowth Treatment for Men - 6 bottles, 6 Month Supply
I've used Minoxidil 5% for over 4 years. The choice of Minoxidil was a no-brainer for me. Just the thought of surgery on my scalp would cause me to lose all of my hair. Prescription medicine had unmentionable side effects. So I chose Minoxidil, which has left me with thin but ever-present hair on top to dazzle the ladies. And it's easy on my wallet (cheaper than Rogaine).

4.0 out of 5 stars "Cheaper and better then Rogaine", October 11, 2009
By
I've been loosing my hair since I was 17 years old (early Alopecia) so I've been using most products out there unfortunately most of them where or are expensive and/or require prescription and a long period of use to start seeing results. I've also used natural remedies and the famous Laser comb with no results!!

I'm not completely bald but I have very noticeable bald spots on the back and front of my head.

Now 31 years old I'm so glad I found this product it is the first I ever used that didn't irritate my scalp or cause flakiness like Rogaine (and some others) did in my case forcing me to stop using it... not to mention more expensive.... This product works on top, front and back of the head, after 2-3 month I had noticeable results. You know that a product works when not only you can see it working but also other people around you noticed too!!

Some people complain that you have to apply 2 times a day or that it is very messy or oily... It all depends on the length of your hair the longer the hair the messier will be and it will take longer to dry....I buzzed my hair (not shaved) so it dries faster and absorbs better in about 30 min. Also applying the product twice a day it's like brushing your teeth it becomes routine!!

In my opinion combine with a good hair loss treatment shampoo and/or pills you could see faster results but right now I'm only using Kirkland 5% Minox. I'm on my 5th month of the treatment and I will continue using it...every case is different in my case it really works!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars If I stop using it hair falls out., November 1, 2007

I have been using this for about 2 years now. I was 43 when I started and wish I started earlier. Although it is a hassle to put it in 2x a day I believe it has helped to retain my hair. I tried not using it for about 10 days and there was a significant increase in loose hair on my pillow and in the shower so it seems to be working.

I can't really tell if it has helped to grow more hair but it definately keeps what I have.

I have tried the foam and while it was a little faster drying, I experienced quite a bit of hair loss so I switched back to the drops.

If you think you need it, do it now but realize you will need to use it as long as you want to keep your hair.

As a hairdresser for over 40 years, I will tell you that this product works! It is 5% of what you will pay for Rogaine and it is the exact same ingredient. Thanks to Kirkland for being a company with integrity and charging a fair price for a fair product. I tell all my clients about Kirkland Minoxidil.

Kirkland Minoxidil seems to be okay...I have tried Rogaine and CVS so far and this one seems to be comparable and okay...when the price is taken into account I prefer Kirkland over them...it has a light scent though...

4.0 out of 5 stars Seems to be working, August 28, 2011

This review is from: Kirkland Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength Hair Regrowth for Men, 6 Month Supply (Health and Beauty)
I have used this product for approximately 6 months now. I am using it for the front of my scalp where the hair was thinning and the hairline was slowly creeping upwards. I can not see any difference in regards to the hairline (nor has anyone implied that I should), but the hair has gotten thicker. It took about 2-3 months before I could see any difference. It is hard to be objective about the results since it is hard to note such a gradual effect, but I met up with a friend at 1 and 6 months after starting the treatment and was told that my hair looked a lot thicker (and he is not afraid to tell me the truth).

In the beginning I experienced an increase in dandruff. I changed shampoo to one without SDS (sodium dodecyl sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate) and I have been problem free since. SDS free shampoos are difficult to find and I currently make my own, which chemically is more similar to soap than shampoo (corn oil, lye, glycerol, ethanol and sugar). Try washing your hair with different kinds of soap instead of shampoo if you have problems with dandruff.

Application can be tricky in the beginning, but you get the routine going. In the evening I just apply right before going to bed as there is no risk of it running down my face while lying down. In the morning I massage it into the scalp. Massaging should not be necessary, but it is a good way to get it everywhere without it dripping to much. Then I use some paper to remove the excess liquid from the hair as it otherwise will form a white layer as it dries. Paper consumption has gone up a lot and I am keeping a short hairstyle as that makes application easier. The morning routine takes about 3 minutes once you get it going. I plan to continue using this product.
