This is a much cheaper way to use it than buying the name brand.

The active ingredient in both this Kirkland brand and in the Rogaine brand is the same, which is Minoxidil. For those of you who don’t know, this recently came off-patent so anyone can use the same active ingredient, allowing companies like Costco (Kirkland) to sell cheaper versions of the same product. That said, you should really only use this product if you already know this product, Rogaine is going to work for you. There seems to be two types of people who have baldness –those who Minoxidil works for, and those who it does not. This is why you’ll see so many 1 star reviews for Rogaine or this Kirkland Minoxidil. Honestly they are very similar, you might notice some lower quality in Monoxidil by Kirkland in terms of foaming-effect but they have the same ingredient and I’ve found the work equally as well.

There are other products you can try if you find that Minoxidil doesn’t work for you, such as a Biochanin-A product like this one. It affects the hair in a different way than Minoxidil. Minoxidil tries to make your body circulate more blood to your scalp where your follicles will grow. A Biochanin A product works at inhibiting the chemicals our body produces that lead to hair loss. Both approaches are equally valid, except some work for some, and other’s work for others. If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried both. I can say that the Biochanin A product from NuNutrients has been the most effective for me in-terms of seeing hair regrowth, but I’ve also used Rogaine as well as the Kirkland brand and seen results, just a lot slower.

I bought this product thinking that it'd do me some good. I'd been noticing a general thinning of the hair on the crown of my head for a little over a year and when three small bald spots appeared I decided to give this product a try. In hindsight, I should have opted for the regular strength 2% solution, but this just seemed like too great of a deal. After four stubborn months of using this 5% solution I've since switched to the 2% because I was getting a very socially awkward amount of dandruff.

As for the actual product itself; you'll begin losing significantly more hair than normal immediately. This extreme hair loss lasted for about six to eight weeks for me and was very dramatic for the first four or five weeks before gradually slowing down and virtually stopping altogether. After five or six weeks I started noticing new thin hairs on my temples, hands, back, etc. I'm sure I was also growing some on my scalp, but they just weren't as visible as the others. It took over three months before I felt as though I'd grown most of the hair I'd lost during the initial shedding back. I stopped using this product before I'd grown much new hair so I can't say for sure if it worked really well, but I can say that it at least worked a little. The one thing I will say is that for anyone who has only a little bit of hair loss, this 5% solution is pretty intense and probably not the right choice. If you're not ready for the side effects you should not use it because your hair will eventually become dependent upon it.

These side effects include drowsiness, itching, dandruff and of course the initial shedding. I think I've already covered the dandruff and initial shedding. The drowsiness is pretty intense for the first two or three weeks and then comes and goes in spurts after that.

This product causes my scalp itch to a degree that I never knew was humanly possible. Literally it's like the itch demon fairy princess from hell came and was digging into your scalp with an "itch-wand" that has needles at its ends dabbed with poison. I kid you not. This doesn't occur right when I put it on, but I'll get itch attacks during the day. And when these attacks occur, dare you even touch one follicle of hair in the area where the Rogaine was applied, the painful scratchy sensation increases a thousand fold. In other words, it itches like crazy, but if you try to scratch it, you will see the gates of Hell looming before you, as it punishes you for even attempting to try to relieve some pressure off your head.

Will I keep using it? I don't know... I can honestly say my mental ability to stay laser focused has increased n-th fold as I am getting my daily practice during these itch-attacks. My hair in the front looks pretty good, but it in the back, not so much. . . Until I get a wife, I think I will keep using it, and then shock her as soon as I drop the Minoxidil after we get married. She'll be stuck to me anyhow. . . .

While no one can argue that the price point for this item is exceptional, it just doesn't hold up compared to the brand name Rogaine Foam. The Kirkland Minoxidil left my hair very greasy for up to a couple hours after each use, which was not pleasant not convenient, especially when using it before bedtime and waking up with a grease stained pillow. I only used it for a couple weeks before switching back to the brand name Rogaine, which may be more expensive, but to me the higher price was worth it in this case.

Believe it or not, It seems like I have twice as much hair as I did before. My hair was thinning, and I thought that I was going to end up baldish, like my mother. I was told in high school that baldness is passed down through the female gene.

I talked to my dermatologist, and she said to use the 5% strength. I use the type of [[ASIN:B002VLZHLI Kirkland Minoxidil 5% Extra Strength Hair Regrowth for Men, 6 Month Supply bottles with the eyedropper so that I can reach my scalp through my medium length hair. I put it on at night, as it tends to be slightly greasy, and by morning, I can't tell that I've used it.

Not only did all my hair grow back, but it woke up follicles that I never even knew I had. It's a dream come true! I hope that I can continue to get this product forever.
