A lot of people have negative things to say about Minoxidil, (or Rogaine) – the truth is topical hair serums/gels have limited scope in terms of who it will work for. For one, this product won’t grow your hair back if you are bad, its more of a preventative measure to keep your hair from thinning. Second, this product will NOT work overnight. Once you start using this product, you will continue to shed for weeks. This does not mean you should stop using it, a lot of people will write negative reviews about this product because it’s not an instant fix. Please don’t give up hope so quickly, it may work for you it just takes time. Lastly, there’s a difference in the causes of hair loss. Some hair loss is caused by genetics (more than half of all cases), and in this case, you’ll need to try products like this Minoxidil, or go even further and get plugs. However, some cases for hair thinning might have nothing to do with your genes, but rather vitamin deficiencies or an improper diet. In these circumstances, supplementing your diet with A Biotin formulated for hair regrowth like this one would be a good bet. The goal for me was to identified exactly what the root cause of my hair loss was, in order for me to know what measures I should take to stop my hair loss. I take both the biotin and Minoxidil for good measure, and I’ve been seeing encouraging results so far.

The vertex of my hairline (where I’ve been seeing the most change) is the area that I’m the most concerned about, and I can say that using these products has slowed down the rate of decline. My father has the same issue as me, and he said at my age he had a lot less hair. I don’t know if that statement is encouraging or not, but at least it means that something is working.

I’ll continue to use these products until more drastic measures are necessary.

The active ingredient in both this Kirkland brand and in the Rogaine brand is the same, which is Minoxidil. For those of you who don’t know, this recently came off-patent so anyone can use the same active ingredient, allowing companies like Costco (Kirkland) to sell cheaper versions of the same product. That said, you should really only use this product if you already know this product, Rogaine is going to work for you. There seems to be two types of people who have baldness –those who Minoxidil works for, and those who it does not. This is why you’ll see so many 1 star reviews for Rogaine or this Kirkland Minoxidil. Honestly they are very similar, you might notice some lower quality in Monoxidil by Kirkland in terms of foaming-effect but they have the same ingredient and I’ve found the work equally as well.

There are other products you can try if you find that Minoxidil doesn’t work for you, such as a Biochanin-A product like this one. It affects the hair in a different way than Minoxidil. Minoxidil tries to make your body circulate more blood to your scalp where your follicles will grow. A Biochanin A product works at inhibiting the chemicals our body produces that lead to hair loss. Both approaches are equally valid, except some work for some, and other’s work for others. If you’re like me, you’ve probably tried both. I can say that the Biochanin A product from NuNutrients has been the most effective for me in-terms of seeing hair regrowth, but I’ve also used Rogaine as well as the Kirkland brand and seen results, just a lot slower.

I bought this product thinking that it'd do me some good. I'd been noticing a general thinning of the hair on the crown of my head for a little over a year and when three small bald spots appeared I decided to give this product a try. In hindsight, I should have opted for the regular strength 2% solution, but this just seemed like too great of a deal. After four stubborn months of using this 5% solution I've since switched to the 2% because I was getting a very socially awkward amount of dandruff.

As for the actual product itself; you'll begin losing significantly more hair than normal immediately. This extreme hair loss lasted for about six to eight weeks for me and was very dramatic for the first four or five weeks before gradually slowing down and virtually stopping altogether. After five or six weeks I started noticing new thin hairs on my temples, hands, back, etc. I'm sure I was also growing some on my scalp, but they just weren't as visible as the others. It took over three months before I felt as though I'd grown most of the hair I'd lost during the initial shedding back. I stopped using this product before I'd grown much new hair so I can't say for sure if it worked really well, but I can say that it at least worked a little. The one thing I will say is that for anyone who has only a little bit of hair loss, this 5% solution is pretty intense and probably not the right choice. If you're not ready for the side effects you should not use it because your hair will eventually become dependent upon it.

These side effects include drowsiness, itching, dandruff and of course the initial shedding. I think I've already covered the dandruff and initial shedding. The drowsiness is pretty intense for the first two or three weeks and then comes and goes in spurts after that.
