Yo-

I always thought that the Kirkland brand Mediterranean Sea Salt tasted good - but this is REALLY good - and just a little does the job. Get it at Costco for half the cost here - at under fourdollars.

The main difference between the salts is the taste, flavor, color, texture and convenience. At the end of the day, salt is salt... its main purpose is to add flavor, not nutrition. Salt is a crystalline mineral made of two elements, sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl). Salt is also used as a food preservative, because bacteria have trouble growing in a salt-rich environment. The reason salt is often perceived as unhealthy (in large amounts), is that it can bind water in the bloodstream and raise blood pressure.

TABLE SALT: Food-grade table salt is almost pure sodium chloride or 97% or higher with substances called anti-caking agents added in order to prevent clumping. I rarely eat iodized salt. They are very high in iodine.

SEA SALT: Made by evaporating seawater. It is very similar to regular salt, but can contain small amounts of minerals. It can also contain trace amounts of heavy metals if it is harvested from a polluted sea.

HIMALAYAN SALT: Harvested from a large salt mine in Pakistan has a pink color due to the presence of iron oxide. It also contains trace amounts of calcium, potassium and magnesium.

KOSHER SALT: A flaky structure salt that makes it easy to spread on top of your food. There is very little difference compared to regular salt, although it is less likely to contain anti-caking agents and added iodine.

CELTIC SALT: Has a light grayish color and is quite moist. It is made from seawater and contains trace amounts of minerals.

Thanks Kris Gunnars.

Himalayan pink salt is the only salt I've used for a couple of years now. You can't beat it, especially as a finishing salt. Delicious, crisp, nice mineral flavor tones, and not as much of a salty "bite" as cheap iodized stuff. So glad to find this on Amazon since I've never seen it stocked in any Costco stores.

Best salt, bar none. Contains trace minerals that the more processed salts don't. Generally has a similar taste to the high-end sea salts, including the similar, white Mediterranean sea salt from Kirkland. This grinder is a great quality, produces a somewhat coarse texture.

If you are a member of the club store, you can get it for a few dollars cheaper there if it is in stock. However, the Prime convenience may be worth it for you.

This could be difficult to use for some with weak wrist. Black collar under lid developed a small split and some powdered salt would leak out while grinding.
Ripped off cap and put the rock salt in container. Crush some with old coffee mill.

I haven't been able to find pink salt in a grinder at any local store yet. The bottle cap came cracked, but it was a gift so I didn't notice it til weeks after the order arrived. It still works, you just have to be careful.

I like the pink salt but the grinder does not work very well. The seal will not stay in place and grinds very slowly.

No salt compares to this one. I use it on everything.
A little sesame oil, crushed pepper, white vinegar & pink salt
on steamed vegetables.
