Suprisingly Good,

I get alittle critical when I try new author since they seem to fall short of my old favorites. But Logan has written a good book for her second novel. I thought both Peter and Emily were wonderful characters and they book seemed to flow fairly well. I hate when authors get off to a great start and lag in the middle. But this author gave me fairly fast moving book throughout the book. They seemed to have good chemistry together not great but good. I am a stickler for chemistry. Some feels forced others have none at all and others have fireworks. This book did not have fireworks but it was still good. I liked the plot of the book, I found it interesting and I liked him be a Runner and not some titled lord. I will be eager to read other books by the author in the future. Good Read!

Romance, mystery, and more...,
This review is from: A Kiss Before Dawn (Mass Market Paperback)
I was delighted to see Peter and Emily together again. I had been anxiously waiting to read more from this amazing author. Ms. Logan hooks you from the first page. There is a skillful mix of romance, suspense, and mystery. It was so enjoyable to meet up with all the characters from A Kiss in the Dark again at a new stage in their lives. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and found it hard to put down. I recommend this wonderful read to any romantic. I can't wait to read Ms. Logan's next book.

A Must Read!!!,

This review is from: A Kiss Before Dawn (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. Logan's "A Kiss Before Dawn" was a wonderfully entertaining read. Although this is connected to her first book "A Kiss In The Dark" it is a strong stand alone read and one that will capture readers hearts.Emily Knight is all grown up now and she has a problem. A big problem. Someone from her past is back and it's not for the greater good. She feels that she must protect her brother and his wife (Tristan and Deidre from AKITD) and if she must turn into a master thief, well steal she shall. That is until her brother brings home her one true heart break. Peter Quick is now a Bow Street Runner, and he took Emily's heart when he left several years earlier. Once the leader of the Rag-Tag bunch he is now on the right side of the law, and has no idea that the person he's been set to catch is the one woman that he can't have for himself. She's an Earl's sister, he's from the streets. But will their love be denied or will circumstances seperate them? Emily, Peter, Tristan, Deirdre, and all the rest...specially Benji are back for this page turning read. This was truly a push/pull romance and one that was driven by circumstances, and pride. In other words, a page turner because the reader will be dying to find out just how this will end. Emily and Peter are compelling characters and it was so much fun to visit again with all of our favorite characters from her previous read. Now, if you haven't had a chance to read Ms. Logan's debut effort, fear not you will correct this oversight once you've read this one. Ms. Logan is a star in the making and one author that I will pick up simply because her name is on the cover. Official Reviewer for Romance Designs

thrilling late Regency romantic suspense,
This review is from: A Kiss Before Dawn (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1827, the Earl Tristan worries about the third robbery in less than a month by the Oxfordshire Thief. He goes to London where he meets his protégé Bow St. investigator Peter Quick, who is like a son to him. He asks Peter to come home to find the felon because the earl's pregnant wife Deirdre is upset and needs him to do so. Only for Deirdre would Peter return home; he fled four years ago because of his feelings for Tristan's sister Emily.Emily is worried because she is the Oxfordshire Thief blackmailed into stealing out of fear the threats from an odious man to expose her mother will ruin her sibling. She runs into Peter who thinks she is still the most beautiful woman in the world. Emily finds she still desires Peter though he deserted her four years ago. They act cold towards each other. Tristan informs Emily that Peter is here to capture the thief; this frightens her as she knows he is dedicated and obstinate and fears Newgate awaits her, but must do what she feels is right. This exciting suspense contains a touch of a police procedural as performed by the Bow St. investigator. The lead couple is a terrific pairing as they love one another, but he believes she deserves better than a rejected son of a whore augmented by the return of the stars from the previous book (see A KISS IN THE DARK). Though Emily falling for blackmail without any proof seems inane for an intelligent person like her, fans will enjoy this thrilling late Regency romantic suspense. Harriet Klausner

On the recommendations of another review - I picked up some books by this author - what a find. In this historical romance Lady Emily Knight and Peter Quick have known each other since they were teenagers (A kiss before Dark) and were best-friends and childhood sweetheart. Peter has been gone for many years (because he felt he was not worthy of Emily) and became a Bow Street Runner. Peter is now back to investigate recent burglaries that Emily is doing to protect a secret. Off to read more by this author - Enjoy!

Thrilling 18th century England romp!,

This review is from: A Kiss Before Dawn (Mass Market Paperback)
Peter Quick is a well respected Bow Street Runner. In his youth however, he was the leader of a group of pickpockets called the Rag-Tag Bunch, who'd taken Emily in when she'd run away from home. Over the years, Peter and Lady Emily became good friends, Emily developed a certain fondness for Peter. On her eighteenth birthday, Peter and Emily shared an Earthshattering kiss, but knowing he could never be good enough for Lady Emily, Peter left her and everybody he'd considered family.Lady Emily Knight is using the pickpocketing techniques she'd learned from Peter so long ago to steal from the wealthy. She has her reasons and never dreamed the children of Willow Park to be accused of the crimes, or for her brother to enlist Peter Quick's help in catching the thief. Emily is still hurt by his abandonment after their shared kiss, having him occupying the same house while he's hunting the thief has her emotions in a tailspin and hormones roaring out of control. Tristan, Emily's brother has made a special trip into London to enlist Peter's help in the capture of the Oxfordshire thief. The local constable is even at a loss, except to decide that the thief must be one of the Willow Park children, in particular a young man named Benji. Willow Park is Tristan's very pregnant wife's project and with her now being in her final stages of a very difficult pregnancy after a long string of miscarriages, Tristan is determined to have the thief caught and brought to justice before it distresses his wife any further, not to mention the validity of Willow Park. Peter was once a resident of Willow Park himself. He considers Tristan to be a father figure and the children of Willow Park siblings. With any sort of threat hanging over their heads, he would do everything in his power to protect them. Even if to protect them he's forced to live in the same vicinity as Lady Emily, whom he's still very much in love with but as the son of a prostitute and his father unknown, he could never hope to be good enough for her. Peter is the only man that Emily has ever loved. She's still hurt from Peter's rejection, and subsequent abandonment. He left with no explanation. How can she ever forgive him that? He's back and staying in her family home to help apprehend the thief. What will he do when he finds out that Lady Emily is the thief? A KISS BEFORE DAWN is a wonderfully amusing romp into 18th century England. This book is full of larger than life characters, a thrilling plot, and streetwise kids that kept me reading and smiling over the bickering all the way to the end. The lingo that is used goes from stuffy upper class to the lower street class and sometimes even a combination of the two. I got the biggest kick out of the squabbling between Miles and Jenna, and adored Benji. I really hope there'll be another book coming with more about these characters. For more about Tristan and Deirdre's story, you'd have to read Kimberly Logan's first book, A KISS BEFORE DARK. Ms. Logan is definitely an author to watch for! Even better than her last!,
By Viv (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Kiss Before Dawn (Mass Market Paperback)
I thought "A Kiss In The Dark" was an okay read, so I was pleasantly surprised about how much I loved book 2, "A Kiss Before Dawn". The "romantic/suspense" review threw me for a loop so I kept putting it back in my TBR pile. This was not what I would categorize as a romantic/suspense. The premise *does* include a mystery, but the romance is at the forefront. An exciting mix of: sexual tension, sensuality, scorching love scenes, and unrequitted lovers finding each other again, is what to look forward to in "AKBD". Another great Avon author to watch. |
