Editorial Reviews

Review

BUT sometimes there are books that not only capture your imagination they seep into your psychee and demand your attention. Like that first time you picked up a book by Kenyon, or Singh, or Laurens or Roberts or Garwood or McNaught.. Books that make it to your TBR pile before they are even written. They are the creme de la creme and worthy of notice. Watch out readers because Boone Brux might just make that list.
"Tea and Book"

I'm always very cautious when reading the second installment in a series, especially when I really enjoyed the first. But I have to say I absolutely loved, the second book in Bringer and the Bane series, actually much more than the first if that's possible. Both Jade and Luc captivated me from the first book but for their story I never wanted to put this book down for one second.
"Seeing Night Book Reviews"

Boone Brux weaves a story so rich in both character and emotions. It's hard for me not to reveal the many secrets that twist and turn in this story. Never once did I think I had it all figured out which is unusual. For a different take on good and evil, I recommend this book! It will leave you breathless wanting to get your hands on the third book!

This is not a book that you can just pick up and read. You have to read the first book in the series before reading this one. Even though the two books don't revolve around the same main characters, Luc and Jade play big roles in the first book. Without reading it, you won't know their history or have a good grasp of the Bane and everything that's going on. Trust me, I know. I started the series with this book. Made it to about the third chapter, gave up, bought the first book and had no problem picking up the story after.

Like I said we meet Luc and Jade in the first book. Luc is a man whore and Jade has not hid the fact that she plans to kill him. However, it isn't until Kiss of the Betrayer that we find out why she is so hostile towards Luc.

Considering that Jade has sort of been on her own since she was a kid and Luc being Luc, there is a lot more action in this book. The two main characters from Shiels of Fire, Ravyn and Rhys play a huge part in this novel. We also follow Incarus again while in the Shadow World and watch as he develops an attachment to another Bane.

There wasn't a whole heck of a lot of romance in this story. The fighting and fantasy world definitely take take the forefront in this story. Not that I'm complaining because I liked all of the action. The only thing that I didn't like was the dialogue, it seems rather robotic and choppy. It didn't flow as well as I'd have liked and that really took away from the story for me.

Overall, this is a great continuation of the story. I wasn't surprised that Luc and Jade got their own story but I'm curious if we will move onto someone else or if we will continue to follow these four while they battle the Bane.

Ms Boone, did it again only this time better than before, we ask for a rainbow and she gave us a pot of
gold, with a Kiss of the Betrayer.

Luc and Jade is on fire, all the old cast is back with a few surprises.
How far will they go for friends, family, and love, this book will keep you up at
night wanting to know what happen next.

Look out Twilight the next big star is here....

Ms. Brux really knocked it out of the park with this one! Pulse pounding action, adventure, Tolkien-like setting, hints of romance and sexual tension that come to satisfying conclusion later in the story… this book has it all!

I really enjoyed Luc and Jade's story and can't wait to see what the author has in store for us in the third book.

I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys high-fantasy with a touch of romance!

Being that "Kiss of the Betrayer" is Book #2 in this series, I highly recommend you read Book #1, "Shield of Fire" first. There is a lot of back story concerning Luc, Jade, Ravyn, and Rhys, as well as Vile and Icarus, that is very important to know before heading down this leg of the journey.

"Kiss of the Betrayer" focuses on Luc and Jade but we also have a lot of involvement from Ravyn, Rhys, Vile, and Icarus, among others.

Luc has a huge secret....a secret that has continued to scar him emotionally for many years; he caused the death of woman he loved. We discover just exactly what happened and why she lost her life, but the twist the author included is brilliant. He has lived a life of carefree bachelorhood committing to no one; his lifestyle the result of the grief he's held pent up for over a decade.

Jade also has a huge secret....and while it involves the vengeful murder of Luc, it isn't what you think. She's harboring a secret that could put her in league with the Bane. After becoming involved with Ravyn (non-sexually) in Book 1, and getting to know Rhys and Luc, Jade isn't quite sure she's up to the task of murdering Luc. When his secret is revealed, Jade's has no choice but to reveal itself, too.

Will the secrets they keep and a past that they share keep Jade and Luc on the good side of evil or will everything they have be destroyed?

I kept my plot description short for a reason.....there are just too many things that could be given away. I don't want to spoil this novel for anyone.

Speaking of plot - Ms. Brux does a fantastic job of weaving the multiple story lines (yet all together connected at some point) and keeping everything and everyone properly focused.

Once again, Boone Brux captivates me into her world of Bringers and Banes. I loved the chemistry between Luc and Jade from the first book and the readers gets more of it in the second installment. I enjoyed the little banters that they engaged in. I also liked that although this story is more concentrated between Jade and Luc, the author still included some of the characters that I enjoyed from the first book. Not only that, you see the different sides of the other characters. Let's just say it's not just black and white and it was amazing how this author made the chemistry between 2 demons sound so sensual. More secrets are revealed yet more mystery still needs to be unraveled. The ending was unbelievable. I am hoping that there's more coming for this series. I would really like to find out more the history of a certain Bane...
