4.0 out of 5 stars Soft yaoi on friendship turning into something else..., March 5, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kiss Blue Volume 1 (Yaoi) (v. 1) (Paperback)
This is the first volume in a series, so there are no "bonus"/unrelated short stories, and the whole volume is spent on building the relationship between two friends (college students, but became friends while at school). I liked the art (soft lines, distinct facial features), though some may find it sketchy at times. It reminds me of the art style in "Fake Fur" and "Manic Love" by Satomi Yamagata, though the type of story here is quite different. It's a fairly slow-paced story, with the gradual build-up of the feelings and relationship. No major tragedies, non-con, or "misunderstandings"; thus, it feels somewhat more real than a typical yaoi story. The characters are also shown from multiple points of views and do not lack dimensions. The manga is not explicit, so if you are looking for heavy (or even moderate) sex scenes, you should look elsewhere. There are two sex scenes in this book, very short and only "suggestive", with nothing really shown: we see one of the guys undressing the other, and then we should assume they're probably "doing it". Nonetheless, some of those who like soft yaoi or BL may appreciate this book: it's a mature take on two friends gradually becoming lovers. There's an amusing and interesting character of a gay boss: he supervises one of the characters (Tomosaka) on his part-time job as a waiter in a cafe/restaurant. The aforementioned boss makes numerous passes on Tomosaka, and it's amusing to watch.
Overall, I found this manga a soothing read and fairly enjoyable, and I hope that June will eventually publish the second (most likely, concluding) volume, which is already out in Japan.

EDIT / November 10, 2010: June recently released Kiss Blue Volume 2 (Yaoi), it's available on Akadot, and for pre-order on Amazon. I'm looking forward to the conclusion of this delicate series.

5.0 out of 5 stars I fell in love with this story!, May 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kiss Blue Volume 1 (Yaoi) (v. 1) (Paperback)
I'm picky about yaoi shonen-ai stories because usually I tend to get the ones that have "explicit content" because of the obvious reasons ( :P )But this story is an exception. I loved this two volume story, very deep felt. The story moves along with the feelings of what the main character goess through, and I personally felt like I was right beside the character, feeling what he was feeling...the author did a very good job at portraying the character's emotions and stuff.

I know the story has low ratings which I think is probably because its a shonen-ai, but I give Kiss Blue a 5 star! It's a very good book, great to have in any yaoi fan shelf. I promise you! It won't dissapoint!

Anohter story that gave me a similar feel to it is Barefoot Wlatz by Romuco Miike and the 3 volume yaoi story "Rin!"
